Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ricky Mendez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lennox Freight! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Albert Achterberg and Wagner Zegers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendez swats away the attempt to clinch by Freight. Mendez takes one to the side of the head.
Mendez throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Mendez blocks a head kick by Freight.
Freight just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromMendez. Mendez tries to close the distance and clinch but Freight swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Freight moves in looking to clinch but Mendez pushes him off. Mendez avoids a kick to the body.
A little feinted left hand from Mendez on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Freight tries a head kick but it misses.
Mendez swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Freight lands with a shot to the body. Freight throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mendez. Freight scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Freight tries to bum rush Mendez with a series of wild strikes but Mendez uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Mendez swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Mendez takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Freight throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Mendez steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Freight. Freight tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. A nice inside leg kick there by Freight. That's going to slow Mendez down. Freight doesn't manage to clinch there - Mendez circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fight stays on the outside here - Freight looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Freight rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mendez moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Freight tries to clinch there but Mendez circles away.
Mendez tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Freight manages to circle out of the way. A punch combination from Mendez misses. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Freight misses with a body kick. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. A low kick from Freight is predictable there and Mendez counters with a nice body kick.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Lennox Freight dominated that round. That's time! Mendez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Freight wants to clinch. Mendez walks into a jab. Freight tries to clinch but Mendez is having none of it. Mendez looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit. Lennox Freight seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Freight lands with a right hand. Freight lands a jab-cross combination. Mendez circles away from the clinch attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Freight tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mendez swats him away and circles back towards the center. Mendez thinks about countering with a body kick. Freight wants to clinch up but Mendez keeps it at a distance. Freight fails with an attempt to clinch.
We've been informed that Freight has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Freight walks forward, straight into a front kick from Mendez. Mendez has managed to clinch.
Freight looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Freight avoiding damage as Mendez throws knees to the body.
Mendez doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Freight has Mendez pressed against the ropes, preventing Mendez from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Freight as Mendez tries to tie him up. Mendez misses with an elbow over the top.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Freight is trying to break free. Our sources have told us that Mendez has been working on his elbows in the gym. Mendez is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes. Mendez tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Freight avoids it. Freight managing to block the knees to the body from Mendez.

Freight wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mendez has him pressed against the ropes. Mendez looking to stall.
Freight tries to break free but Mendez pushes him back against the ropes. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Mendez misses with some punches.

Freight has had enough of the clinch but Mendez keeps him there for the moment. Mendez tries to land knees in the clinch but Freight avoids the damage to the body. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Ricky Mendez will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Freight tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Mendez paws at him with a jab and circles away. Freight thows a body kick. Mendez tries to catch it but that hurt him. Freight tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Mendez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Mendez is looking to counter with a body kick. Freight tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Mendez counters with a body kick that stops Freight in his tracks momentarily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Freight throws a head kick but Mendez moves out of range.
As Freight backs away, Mendez returns fire with a leg kick that just misses. Freight throws a right and a left that both miss. Mendez thinks about countering with a head kick.

Freight is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Freight throws a combination. Mendez tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Freight misses with a wild combination.
Freight scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Mendez doesn't seem bothered though. Mendez checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. It appears Mendez was looking to counter with a kick there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Freight wants to clinch. Freight doesn't manage to clinch there - Mendez circles away.
Mendez is looking to counter punch. Freight throws a right and a left that Mendez avoids nicely. Mendez keeps the fight on the outside. An attempted straight right counter from Mendez misses the target. Freight fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mendez wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Mendez slips under a jab. Mendez is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Freight. Freight tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Mendez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Mendez thinks about countering with a body kick.
And that's the end of the fight! Lennox Freight comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Freight has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
