Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Darrin Vaughn (ranked 23674 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dio Smyth (ranked 4631 p4p, 450 weight class). Smyth has chosen Number of the Beast- Iron Maiden as his entrance music. Dio Smyth has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Darrin Vaughn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dio Smyth!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smyth is looking to clinch but Vaughn is avoiding it.

Smyth shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Vaughn is trying to defend but Smyth finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Smyth tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Vaughn.
Smyth content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Vaughn wants to control but Smyth is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vaughn keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smyth thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Vaughn manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Smyth keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Smyth works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Vaughn pushes Smyth off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smyth throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Vaughn was covering up waiting for the punch and Smyth finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Smyth wants to control from the top but Vaughn keeps moving.

Vaughn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smyth's guard.

Smyth looks winded!
Vaughn with a flurry of punches that miss.
Vaughn wants to get up but he can't break Smyth's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Vaughn trying to control but Smyth is working from the bottom.

Vaughn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Vaughn wants to control from the top but Smyth keeps moving.
Vaughn wants to stand but Smyth is controlling his posture from full guard.
Smyth has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Vaughn gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Vaughn shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Vaughn showed some decent athleticism there.

That was a close round but I would say that Darrin Vaughn will probably get the nod.

Smyth shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Smyth was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Smyth is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Vaughn can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Vaughn is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Smyth throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Vaughn tries to lock up and control but Smyth gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Smyth jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Vaughn manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Smyth is breathing heavily.
Smyth throws a strike aimed at the side of Vaughn's head but Vaughn avoids it well.
Smyth tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Smyth working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Vaughn tries to get back to half guard but can't.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Smyth is looking for a kimura but Vaughn is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Smyth to get the leverage.
Smyth takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
