Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, David Schapiro and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Day connects with a good right hand that stumbles Washington. Washington circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Washington closes the distance and pushes Day back into the cage.

Day pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Washington throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Day's waist but Day gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Washington off to one side.
Day lands a nice leg kick that just misses Washington's sensitive parts.
Washington is looking to clinch.

and Day counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Day told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Washington takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Day looks to land a combination but Washington avoids it well.
Washington seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Washington fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Day to the ground. Washington is now in Day's guard.
Washington wants to stand but Day is controlling his posture from full guard.
Washington with a flurry of punches that miss.
Day is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Day has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Washington has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Day breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Washington takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.


Dominique Washington's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Washington bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Day is looking for a sweep.
A bit of a lull in the action here.
You can see the frustration on Day's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Washington's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Day ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Washington looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Day does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Washington takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.


Jeez, Dominique Washington's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
