PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yun Won Hyang (ranked 772 p4p, 109 weight class) and Xander Machado (ranked 1340 p4p, 189 weight class). Machado has chosen Latin Thugs as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yun Won Hyang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Xander Machado!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Columbo Gatti and John Kavanagh.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machado throws a series of strikes that have Hyang backpedaling.
Hyang moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Machado throws a jab but it's blocked by Hyang.
Hyang tries to clinch but Machado moves out of range.
Hyang lands with a good body shot.

Machado closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hyang's guard.

Hyang kicks Machado off and gets to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hyang tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Machado paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hyang throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Machado throws a big counter head kick but Hyang avoids it with no problem.

Hyang rushes Machado and presses him up against the cage.
Hyang tries to work over Machado's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Hyang lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Hyang tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Machado smiles and moves away.

Machado avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Machado.

Hyang fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Machado has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Machado thuds a left hand into Hyang's body.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Machado.
Hyang swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Hyang tries to close the distance and clinch up but Machado swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Machado is looking for the big counter here.
Machado moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

and Hyang counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Machado shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hyang sprawls well. Hyang wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Machado gets slowly back to his feet.
Yun Won Hyang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Xander Machado.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Machado ducks under a wild hook from Hyang.
Machado looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Hyang lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Hyang throws a nice looking combination but Machado bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Machado was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Hyang tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Machado throws a leg kick but Hyang moved away.
Machado shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hyang defends it nicely.

Hyang drives through with a takedown into Machado's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Hyang has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Machado is pulling down on Hyang's head. It's preventing any offense from Hyang, at least for the moment.

Machado is working an open guard so Hyang takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Hyang tries to score a power double leg takedown but Machado sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hyang somewhat.

Hyang looks to throw the jab but Machado is out of range.

Hyang ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Machado moves away.

Machado shoots in looking for a takedown but Hyang manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Machado's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Hyang catches Machado with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Hyang feints a jab promting Machado to slip. Hyang then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Machado slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Machado is rocked!
Hyang connects with a jab, followed by a picture perfect straight right that sends Machado to the canvas, out cold! What a finish by Hyang!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Yun Won Hyang!
In his post fight interview, Yun Won Hyang started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
In defeat, Xander Machado stepped up to the mic, saying 'No Worries Homies, Gonna Train Hard And Win Next Fight'.
