PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Davi Araujo (ranked 5078 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Levy (ranked 4984 p4p, 252 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Davi Araujo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Victor Levy!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Bruno Hogan and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Araujo feints and as Levy raises his hands in defense, Araujo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Araujo drops back looking for a leg! Levy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Levy manages to kick Araujo off! Araujo jumps back into Levy's guard.
Araujo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Levy keeping full guard, as Araujo tries to pass.

Levy working for a triangle but Araujo defends it easily.
Araujo wants to pass the guard but Levy is keeping the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Levy manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
A head punch on the inside from Araujo fails to land.

Levy working hard to break the clinch.
Levy is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Araujo is defending well.
Araujo tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Levy's elbow.
Araujo tries to score a body lock takedown but Levy shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Come on Levy - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Levy is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Araujo gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Levy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Araujo.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Araujo tries to advance to mount but can't.
Levy wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Araujo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Araujo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Levy is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Araujo happy to just control the position for now.

Levy is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Araujo remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Levy is looking for a sweep.
Araujo slows the pace down.

Araujo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Levy keeps working.
Levy is looking for a sweep.

Levy throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Araujo shoots in and gets a takedown into Levy's guard.

Levy is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Araujo is trying to pull guard but Levy has him pressed against the cage.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Araujo.

Levy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Levy keeps the fight on the outside.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Levy scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Araujo is breathing heavily.
Araujo manages to get to full guard.

Araujo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Levy defends well.
Araujo wants to improve his position but instead Levy has moved into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Victor Levy dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Araujo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Levy looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Araujo has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Levy is squirming around, avoiding Araujo's attempts to control the action.
Victor Levy has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Levy is desperately trying to improve his position but Araujo has a good base and remains in mount.
Levy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Araujo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Araujo controlling the pace for now.
Araujo moves to back control.

A bit of a pause in the action here. Araujo controlling the positon.
Levy rolls, trying to escape but Araujo keeps control of the position.
Levy rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Araujo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Levy is just riding it out for now. Araujo eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Levy connecting with a few gentle strikes.
Araujo is pressing down on Levy's thigh, looking to free his foot. Levy is holding on for now.
Levy is trying to stand.
Araujo controlling the action here.
Levy is not content to let Araujo control the position.

Levy is looking to control Araujo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Levy avoid being mounted?
Levy is staying active underneath Araujo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Levy tries to get to full guard but Araujo has control of the leg.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Levy shoots in for a takedown but Araujo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Araujo tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Levy manages to circle out of the way.
Levy is breathing heavily.
Levy misses with a series of wild punches.

Araujo shoots in and gets a takedown into Levy's guard.
Araujo trying to move into half guard but instead Levy has managed to sweep!

Araujo is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Levy throws an elbow that misses. Araujo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Levy's guard. Nice move by Araujo!

Araujo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Araujo slips nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Araujo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Araujo decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Araujo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Araujo is looking to stall here but Levy recovers full guard.

Levy is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Levy is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Levy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Araujo trying to control but Levy is working from the bottom.

Araujo is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Levy is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Levy has escaped and now he's on top!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Araujo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Levy is one step ahead there.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Araujo looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Levy wanted to stand there but Araujo had control of the position.
Araujo is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Levy forces his way into half guard.
Levy tries to pass to full mount but Araujo defends it.
Araujo wants to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Araujo trying to hold on to Levy's head to control him but Levy postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Levy gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Levy pulls guard.
Araujo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Levy swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Levy working for submissions but it's allowed Araujo to get to half guard.
Araujo wants to pass the guard but Levy is defending well.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Victor Levy.
I think Levy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
