Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Topher Curtis (ranked 1701 p4p, 225 weight class) and Mauricio Gracie (ranked 22319 p4p, 555 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Topher Curtis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mauricio Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, William Gold and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie drives through and clinches with Curtis against the cage.
Curtis is trying to break free.

Gracie throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Curtis on the side of the head.
Mauricio Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie just misses with a punch to the body.
A quick step to the side and Curtis tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Gracie shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Gracie thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Curtis's head.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but Curtis is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gracie to get the leverage.

Curtis makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
We've been told by Curtis's head coaches at Panda Sprawl n Brawl that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Curtis slips a straight right by Gracie.
Curtis with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gracie to score with a decent uppercut.
Gracie connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Curtis cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Curtis swats away the attempt to clinch by Gracie.
Curtis was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Curtis can't break the clinch.
Curtis has Gracie pushed against the cage.
Gracie tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Curtis's elbow.

Curtis needs to keep his hands up - Gracie had a free shot at his head there.

Gracie throws a sloppy head kick and Curtis moves out of range easily.
It looked like Curtis wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Gracie throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Gracie works the jab nicely.

Gracie instigates a clinch.
Gracie softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Gracie goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Curtis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gracie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gracie closes the distance and clinches up with Curtis, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes Curtis against the cage but Curtis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Gracie misses with an uppercut
and Curtis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Gracie has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

A shot to the body from Gracie misses
and Curtis counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Gracie looks to throw the jab but Curtis is out of range.
It looked like Curtis was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Gracie.
Gracie misses with a looping left.
A little feinted left hand from Curtis on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Curtis keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Gracie.

Gracie throws a right hand that misses
and Curtis connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gracie ducks under a wild hook from Curtis.

and Curtis counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mauricio Gracie will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
