Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Savage Goon (ranked 3537 p4p, 363 weight class) and Xio Pio (ranked 4153 p4p, 411 weight class). Savage Goon has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Savage Goon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Xio Pio!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Pio changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Goon tries to avoid it but Pio manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Goon to the ground. Goon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Pio closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Goon did well to prevent Pio getting side control.

Goon is defending against the submission attempts here by Pio.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Goon has one foot on Pio's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Pio shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Goon as he avoids it easily.
Savage Goon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Xio Pio.
Goon slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Goon closes the distance and clinches.

A frustrated look appears on Goon's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Goon has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Pio tightens his grip and picks Goon up, before dumping him to the ground. Goon manages to land in guard.

Goon is really struggling to control Pio but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Pio wants to stand but Goon has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Savage Goon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Goon lands a glancing blow to the side of Pio's head.
Goon misses with a straight left.

Pio will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Pio is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Goon lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Goon pushes Pio back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Goon tries to break free but Pio pushes him back against the cage.
Pio can't get the takedown.
Goon wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Goon stalls.

Goon is trying to push Pio away but Pio has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Goon lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Goon is looking to break free of the clinch but Pio has double underhooks.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Pio shoots for a double leg takedown but Goon sprawls well. He's pushed Pio's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
As Pio looks to move away, Goon throws a big counter combo but Pio just gets out of the way.

Goon drops Pio with a beautiful combination! Pio stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Goon is looking for the KO!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Goon throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Pio's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Goon dives in looking to finish as Pio flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Goon's strikes! Goon is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Pio's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Pio was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
