Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Phil Flacco! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wladimir Kutchkov! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Illya Tyunina and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Flacco gets a takedown into half guard. Kutchkov looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Flacco is taking a breather. Kutchkov says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Flacco is keen to just control but Kutchkov is a slippery customer. Flacco gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Kutchkov takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
That's one minute gone in the round. Flacco misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. A head kick misses from Flacco. Flacco scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Kutchkov trying to control from the bottom.
Flacco is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Kutchkov still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Kutchkov has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Flacco is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Flacco is trying to buck Kutchkov off. Kutchkov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Flacco. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Kutchkov stands up and we're back to a striking position. Flacco throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Kutchkov misses with a takedown attempt and Flacco decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kutchkov's guard. Kutchkov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Flacco can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Flacco wants to control from the top but Kutchkov keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Flacco looking to pass the guard. Flacco passes easily into side control. Nice work. Flacco cracks Kutchkov with a big elbow. Flacco tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Flacco wants to control but Kutchkov is keeping him busy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Flacco looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Flacco looking to control but instead Kutchkov has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kutchkov can do anything to dispel that myth. Kutchkov tries to kick Flacco off but Flacco keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Phil Flacco dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Flacco circles away from the clinch attempt and Flacco counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Flacco. Flacco wants to control from the top but Kutchkov keeps moving. Flacco stopping the sweep attempt from Kutchkov. Kutchkov is working an open guard so Flacco takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Phil Flacco is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Flacco gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Flacco wants to sweep but no luck.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kutchkov stands up from Flacco's guard - Kutchkov perhaps looking for a knockout. Kutchkov clinches up with Flacco and pushes him back against the cage. Flacco wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Kutchkov slowing the pace effectively. Kutchkov gets a trip takedown into half guard. Flacco has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kutchkov is working away from the top position though. Flacco is looking for a sweep. Kutchkov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Flacco is looking to control Kutchkov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Flacco avoid being mounted? Flacco is trying to stand up here but Kutchkov is controlling him well. Flacco moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Kutchkov looking to improve position, pressing down on Flacco's thigh with his hand. Flacco seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Kutchkov paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Kutchkov's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Flacco picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
