And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Aleksi Karelin!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Phil Schofield and Colin Fotheringham.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Karelin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Karelin shoots in looking for a takedown but Cartwright manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Karelin's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

and Cartwright holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Caidan Cartwright has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aleksi Karelin.
Karelin jumps guard but Cartwright stands there with Karelin around his waist. Karelin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Karelin is trying to pull guard but Cartwright has him pressed against the cage.

Cartwright has hold of one of Karelin's legs. Karelin is fighting the takedown attempt but Cartwright gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Cartwright drops back looking for a leg! Karelin is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Karelin manages to kick Cartwright off! Cartwright jumps back into Karelin's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cartwright pushes down on Karelin's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Cartwright is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Karelin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cartwright.

Cartwright seems to be working for a kimura but Karelin defends the submission attempt.
Karelin trying to hold on to Cartwright's head to control him but Cartwright postures up.
Karelin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cartwright. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Cartwright is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Cartwright seems to be looking for submissions.

Cartwright is looking for a kimura but Karelin is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cartwright to get the leverage.
Cartwright prevents Karelin from improving his position.
Karelin won't allow Cartwright to pass to mount.

Cartwright in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Karelin tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Cartwright!
