0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bob Alstair! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Taro Takaoka and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pace fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Pace really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Alstair misses with the combination.
Pace forces Alstair back against the cage and clinches. Alstair has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Pace is trying to keep an underhook but Alstair manages to get the takedown into half guard. Pace kicks Alstair off and gets back to his feet. Pace tries to sprawl but Alstair drives through with a takedown into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Pace is holding on to half guard well.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Oooooooooooh, not good. Alstair tries to circle away but Pace has him pinned against the cage. Pace has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Alstair is trying to keep an underhook but Pace manages to get the takedown into half guard. Pace takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pace seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pace is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Pace is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Alstair is just riding it out for now. Pace eventually gives up the hold. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Pace is figuring out what he wants to do next. Pace has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. Still in half guard, Pace seems content to control. Pace is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Pace controlling the pace. Pace's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Ground and pound from Pace. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pace is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Alstair being controlled here, momentarily. Pace stands up over Alstair, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Pace slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Pace has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Pace is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Alstair can do to turn this around? Pace is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Alstair wants to sweep here but Pace controlling him for the moment. Alstair will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Pace lands a couple of elbows. Pace drops back looking for a leg! Alstair is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Alstair manages to kick Pace off! Pace trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. That's three minutes gone in the round. Pace fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Alstair is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Pace changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Alstair looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Pace moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Pace scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Alstair to see if he's OK. Pace takes a little break here. Alstair wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Alstair is looking to reverse the position.

Pace controlling the position. Pace looks up at the clock and then as Alstair takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Pace smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Bob Alstair has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Sydney Pace is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Pace is working to tighten his grip on Alstair's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Alstair has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Pace is really squeezing tight and eventually Alstair passes out! Pace breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
