Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jerry Farrell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chak Norkjis! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Ryoma Takatsuka and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Norkjis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The strikes coming from Norkjis are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Farrell is looking to reverse the position. Farrell seems a little lost for a moment, as Norkjis dominates the positioning. Farrell struggling a bit here. Norkjis wants to control but Farrell is keeping him busy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Norkjis tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. The ground and pound from Norkjis seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Farrell prevents Norkjis from moving into mount. Farrell sneaks back into half guard. Farrell is trying to control but can't.
Norkjis is controlling the pace.
Farrell has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Norkjis is working away from the top position though. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Norkjis wants to pass to mount but Farrell is defending the position.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Norkjis moves into the clinch successfully.
Farrell's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Norkjis blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Norkjis has Farrell pressed against the cage, preventing Farrell from circling away and getting back to striking at range. A head punch blocked on the inside by Norkjis. Norkjis wants the takedown. Farrell is fighting it off but Norkjis persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Farrell's guard against the cage. Farrell wants to get back to his feet but Norkjis passes into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Farrell is trying to control but can't.
Farrell is concentrating on defense, preventing Norkjis from advancing position. Norkjis throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Farrell to regain full guard. Norkjis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Farrell is proving hard to escape from. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Farrell wants to sweep here but Norkjis controlling him for the moment. Farrell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Farrell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Norkjis trying to hold on to Farrell's head to control him but Farrell postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Norkjis tries to roll over but Farrell keeps him under control. Farrell slows the pace down in half guard. Farrell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Farrell working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Norkjis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Farrell is working away from the top position though. Farrell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Ground and pound from Farrell. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jerry Farrell will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Norkjis shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Farrell napping and manages to drive through into side control! Norkjis is trying to ground and pound but Farrell uses the momentary lack of control by Norkjis to regain half guard. Norkjis trying to control from half guard but Farrell is working away. Norkjis prevents Farrell from improving his position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Farrell blocking the ground and pound attempt from Norkjis. Farrell is not content to let Norkjis control the position. Norkjis slows the pace down in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Norkjis with the ground and pound but Farrell uses the opportunity to regain guard. Farrell looking to control.
Norkjis is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Farrell has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Norkjis is looking to defend but Farrell has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Norkjis! Farrell pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Norkjis taps out and this one is all over!
