Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Grant Merrill (ranked 24805 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scooter Dooby (ranked 5770 p4p, 465 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Grant Merrill! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Scooter Dooby! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Merrill fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Dooby looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Dooby checks the leg kick. Dooby drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Merrill defends it well. Merrill pushes Dooby up against the cage in a clinch. Merrill manages to break the clinch.
Merrill buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dooby shoots for a takedown but Merrill saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Merrill shoots in looking for a takedown but Dooby manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Merrill's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Dooby tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Merrill paws at him with a jab and circles away. Merrill seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dooby tries to clinch but Merrill is having none of it. Merrill was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Dooby shoots and misses and Merrill makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Merrill misses with a takedown attempt - Dooby sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Dooby feints the counter takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Grant Merrill. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dooby tries for a takedown but Merrill sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Merrill appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick. Merrill slaps away a takedown attempt from Dooby, before circling back to the center of the mat. A quick step to the side and Merrill tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Merrill shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dooby pinned against the cage. Dooby gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Dooby drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Merrill defends it well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Merrill fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dooby avoids it really well and circles away. Merrill fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dooby, pushing him back against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Merrill manages to break the clinch.
Dooby will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Merrill fails with a takedown attempt. Merrill closes the distance and pushes Dooby back into the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dooby throws a knee to the head but misses.
Merrill's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. A nice inside leg kick there by Merrill. That's going to slow Dooby down. Merrill looking for a takedown here - he's got it. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Dooby trying to control the position here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Dooby is trying to control the position but Merrill postures up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dooby shoots in for a takedown but Merrill shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Grant Merrill has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scooter Dooby. Merrill looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dooby is fending him off so far but Merrill persists. Nope, Dooby circles away and we're back to standing. Dooby gets tackled into the cage by Merrill. Merrill maintains the clinch. Dooby jumps guard but Merrill turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Merrill manages to break the clinch.
Merrill shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dooby as he avoids it easily. Dooby tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Merrill tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Dooby defends well and Merrill ends up having to push Dooby into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Dooby shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Merrill is looking to counter the offense by Dooby and move into the clinch. Merrill looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dooby is fending him off so far but Merrill persists. Nope, Dooby circles away and we're back to standing. Merrill shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Dooby drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Merrill defends it well. Dooby dives in and grabs Merrill's left leg, looking for a takedown. Merrill pushes down on Dooby's head and hops out. Merrill lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Merrill throws a head kick that Dooby semi-blocks.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dooby looks for a takedown but Merrill sprawls well. A quick step to the side and Merrill tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Merrill takes the fight into the clinch. Merrill escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dooby avoids the head kick by Merrill.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Dooby crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Merrill - the referee stops the clock and Dooby gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Merrill. Dooby manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Merrill shoots for a takedown but Dooby saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. And Dooby tries to counter it with a takedown but Merrill pushes his down on his head and steps out. Dooby fails with a takedown attempt. Dooby wants to clinch up but Merrill keeps it at a distance. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Merrill shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dooby as he jumps to the side. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Dooby sneaks back into half guard. The fighters are battling for position here. Dooby manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Dooby not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Merrill makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Dooby looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Merrill throws a big right hand that misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Merrill postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Dooby is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Merrill is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dooby can do to turn this around? Merrill is looking to slow Dooby down with leg kicks. Dooby slaps away a takedown attempt from Merrill, before circling back to the center of the mat. Merrill gets in close and instigates a clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dooby wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Merrill breaks from the clinch.
Dooby tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Merrill swivels and escapes. Merrill looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Merrill takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Grant Merrill showed his dominance in that final round. Well Merrill has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
