Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steve Goodman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Zico Forte! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Forte takes the fight into the clinch. Forte takes an elbow to the forehead. Goodman gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Forte regains guard.
Forte wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Goodman postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Goodman looking to sit in guard and control but Forte gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Forte postures up.
Goodman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Forte doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Forte manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Forte throws an elbow that misses. Goodman uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Forte's guard. Nice move by Goodman! Goodman throws a strike but Forte rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
That's one minute gone in the round. Forte drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Goodman dives on top into guard. Forte looking to control.
Forte has momentary wrist control but Goodman slips an elbow through the middle. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Goodman's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Forte looking to hit a scissor sweep but Goodman is one step ahead there. Forte controls Goodman momentarily but Goodman frees himself. Goodman lands a couple of decent looking shots.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Goodman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Forte has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Goodman has managed to get both his arms back between Forte's legs - danger averted. Forte looks winded! Goodman postures up and lands a big shot to Forte's brow. Forte pulls Goodman in close to prevent any damage. Goodman lands a couple of digs. Goodman is working Forte over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Goodman throws a strike but Forte rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Forte throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Goodman works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Forte landing with the ground and pound. Forte is sitting in close to Goodman's body. Goodman has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Forte is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Forte is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Goodman.
