Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edmond Honda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 14 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fanta Coco! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Coco throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Nice defenses there by Honda. Honda stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Coco. Honda misses with a head kick.
Honda throws the left hand but Coco avoids the punch easily. Honda connects with a good right hand that stumbles Coco. Coco circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
It looks like Fanta Coco has been cut. Honda has his takedown stuffed and Coco counters with a left to the body. Honda with a lazy takedown attempt and Coco counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Coco throws a half hearted mid kick. Honda changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Honda throws a lazy head kick and Coco counters with a nice kick to the body. Honda has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Honda missing with a left hand there. Coco was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Coco lands with a hook. Honda tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
It looks like Edmond Honda has been cut. Honda pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A big left from Coco misses. Honda needs to keep his hands up - Coco had a free shot at his head there. Honda looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Honda lands a slapping body shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Honda looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Coco follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land. Honda ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Honda misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Coco.
Honda tries to score a power double leg takedown but Coco sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Honda somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edmond Honda. That's going to take a lot out of him. Honda fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Coco sprawls well initially but Honda persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Honda working Coco over with strikes. Coco is staying active underneath Honda, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Honda working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Honda is nestled in close to Coco, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
That has opened up Fanta Coco's cut even more. Honda looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Fanta Coco's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Fanta Coco's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Edmond Honda! Edmond Honda was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
