PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Beau Tucker (ranked 1685 p4p, 206 weight class) and Ferdinand Marquez (ranked 2066 p4p, 248 weight class). Ferdinand Marquez told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Beau Tucker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ferdinand Marquez!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marquez throws a sloppy head kick and Tucker moves out of range easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Tucker.
A telegraphed right hand from Marquez misses the target.
Tucker displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Marquez throws out the jab.
Tucker misses the shot to the body.
Marquez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Tucker shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Tucker was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The referee asks Tucker politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Tucker prefers to stall for the moment though.

Marquez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tucker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Tucker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Marquez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tucker doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tucker manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Marquez can do anything to dispel that myth.

Tucker got a little sloppy there for a moment and Marquez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tucker has managed to get both his arms back between Marquez's legs - danger averted.

Marquez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tucker defends it easily.

Tucker looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Marquez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Marquez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Tucker's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Tucker connects with a nice short shot to Marquez's temple.

We've been hearing good reports from Tucker's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Tucker throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Marquez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Tucker is in Marquez's guard.

Marquez isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Tucker stacks Marquez on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Tucker!

Tucker has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tucker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
