PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Trevor Sanchez (ranked 5124 p4p, 255 weight class) and Dave Dobbs (ranked 2780 p4p, 173 weight class). Dobbs comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Dont fear the reaper, Blue oyster cult. kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Trevor Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Dobbs!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sanchez tries to keep at a distance but Dobbs has taken the fight into the clinch.
Sanchez blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Dobbs throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Sanchez goes for a takedown in the clinch but Dobbs prevents it.

Sanchez successfully pulls guard.
Sanchez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dobbs's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dobbs looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sanchez is one step ahead there.
Sanchez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sanchez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

A punch combination from Dobbs misses.
Sanchez half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Dobbs feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Sanchez manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dobbs as he avoids it easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Sanchez tries to close the distance and clinch but Dobbs swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sanchez keeps control of Dobbs as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Dobbs has had enough of the clinch but Sanchez keeps him there for the moment.

Dobbs is trying to trip Sanchez. He has hold of a leg but Sanchez is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Dobbs persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Sanchez wriggles free and stands up.

Dobbs fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sanchez, pushing him back against the cage.

Sanchez gets underhooks to prevent Dobbs's takedown attempt.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Sanchez tries for a takedown but Dobbs manages to get underhooks.
Sanchez jumps guard but Dobbs stands there with Sanchez around his waist. Sanchez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Dobbs won't allow Sanchez to sweep him here.
Dobbs lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Dobbs is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Dobbs must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sanchez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Dobbs throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dave Dobbs will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sanchez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dobbs is fending him off so far but Sanchez persists. Nope, Dobbs circles away and we're back to standing.

Dobbs moves into the clinch.
Dobbs swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Dobbs with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Dobbs has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Dobbs turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Dobbs manages to end up in side control.

Sanchez bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Sanchez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Dobbs after a bit of a struggle.

Sanchez has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Dobbs uses from the top position.

Dobbs jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sanchez walks away with a smile on his face. Dobbs gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Dobbs scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.


It looks like Trevor Sanchez has been cut.

Dobbs's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Dobbs wants to break free but Sanchez has control.
Sanchez is trying to maintain a safe position but Dobbs gets an underhook and turns Sanchez into the cage.
