Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hank Hill! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nauricio Rua! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hill wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Rua takes a body punch but keeps moving. Rua wants to clinch up but Hill keeps it at a distance. Hill has managed to clinch.
Rua tries to land knees in the clinch but Hill avoids the damage to the body. Hill lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Rua. Rua trying to land knees to the body.
Rua misses with a knee to the head. Hill lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Rua misses with a knee to the head. Hill's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Hill seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression. Rua missing with knees to the body.
Hill lands on the inside with an uppercut. Hill on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Hill tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rua just stands there and leans against the cage. Rua tries to land a knee to the head but Hill blocks with his arms.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Rua as Hill tries to tie him up. Rua tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Rua using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Hill has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Hill breaks from the clinch.
Hill scores with a takedown into Rua's guard. Hill postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rua is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hill, into his guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hill working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rua doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rua manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Rua stands up from Hill's guard - Rua perhaps looking for a knockout. Rua tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Hill moves into the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hill fails to pull guard.
Hill tries to pull guard but Rua won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hank Hill. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hill manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Hill working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rua doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rua manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Hill has his foot on Rua's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rua works his way back into a safe position though. Rua wants to stand but Hill is controlling his posture from full guard. Hill has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Rua doesn't defend quickly enough and Hill has managed to lock this one up! Can Rua escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Hill on a fantastic submission victory.
