Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Everette Evans (ranked 24208 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shawn Briggs (ranked 4809 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Everette Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shawn Briggs!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Summer Carpenter and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Briggs is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Evans's half guard.
Briggs slows the pace down in half guard.
Evans could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Evans wants to control but Briggs is keeping busy and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Briggs wants to stand up but Evans manages to regain full guard.
Briggs stays in close to Evans's body and controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Evans fails in his attempt to clinch.

Briggs throws a head kick but Evans moves out of range.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Briggs feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Briggs wants to pass the guard but Evans is keeping the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Briggs manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Briggs is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Evans defends well.

Evans wants to stand but Briggs is controlling his posture from full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Briggs can do anything to dispel that myth.
Briggs has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Briggs throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Evans trying to stand up but can't free himself from Briggs's guard.
Briggs scores with a couple of body punches from the bottom.
Evans wants to stand but Briggs has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Evans moves out of range as Briggs throws a body kick.
Evans tries a head kick but it misses.
Shawn Briggs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Evans misses with a series of wild punches.

Briggs drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Briggs gets a double leg takedown into Evans's guard.
Briggs sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Evans's guard.

Briggs tries to pass to full mount but Evans defends it.

Briggs is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Evans!
Evans is bucking up trying to escape but Briggs cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Briggs moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Evans has worked his arm free - good work by Evans!
Evans is trying to control Briggs's posture but Briggs avoids it.
Evans is looking for a sweep.

Evans is trying is best to control the position here.
Briggs is controlling the pace.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Evans is looking to improve his position.
Briggs is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Briggs missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Evans is not content to let Briggs control the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Briggs manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Evans on his heels. He'll look to pass Evans's guard now, I'm sure.

Evans manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Briggs escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Briggs shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Evans's guard.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Briggs. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Briggs looking to sit in guard and control but Evans gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Briggs is breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Briggs is trying to control the position but Evans postures up.

Briggs has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Evans can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Evans postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Briggs has control of Evans's left arm, preventing Evans from doing any damage.
Briggs's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Briggs stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Evans swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Evans throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Briggs on the side of the head.

Briggs rushes Evans and presses him up against the cage.
Evans can't break the clinch.
Evans wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Briggs has him pressed against the cage.
Briggs has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Briggs prevents Evans from breaking the clinch.

Briggs is trying to trip Evans. He has hold of a leg but Evans is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Briggs persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Evans shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Evans was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Briggs is looking for a sweep.
Briggs takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Evans thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Briggs wants to control but Evans postures up.
Evans tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Briggs tries to buck Evans off but Evans is having none of it.

Evans stands up and beckons Briggs to his feet.

Briggs shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Evans is looking for a sweep. Briggs is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Briggs throws a strike but Evans avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Briggs stays in close to Evans's body and controls the position.
Everette Evans has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Shawn Briggs is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
