PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jacques Chaize (ranked 4834 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Matrix (ranked 4569 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jacques Chaize!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Matrix!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Daniel Franklin and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chaize lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Chaize.
Matrix shoots in looking for a takedown. Chaize tries to sprawl out of it but Matrix keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chaize manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Matrix shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Matrix tries for a takedown but Chaize circles away easily
and Chaize connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Matrix tries to score a power double leg takedown but Chaize sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Matrix somewhat.
A little feinted left hand from Chaize on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Jacques Chaize has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Matrix.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice straight punches there by Chaize. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Chaize.

Matrix is trying hard to land a takedown here. Chaize sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Matrix dives in and grabs Chaize's left leg, looking for a takedown. Chaize pushes down on Matrix's head and hops out.

Matrix tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Matrix shoots for a takedown but Chaize saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Matrix is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Chaize is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Matrix gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Matrix controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Chaize pulls Matrix in close to his closed guard and prevents Matrix from doing any damage or advancing position.
Chaize knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Matrix on the ground.

Chaize is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Matrix can do to turn this around?

Matrix thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Matrix is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Matrix just misses with a punch to the body.
Matrix takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Matrix throws a push kick but Chaize slaps the foot to one side.
Chaize swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Chaize uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Matrix has time to react.

Matrix moves to clinch but Chaize breaks away
and Chaize connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Chaize fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Matrix looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Chaize throws a looping overhand right but Matrix ducks down to avoid it.

Matrix fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Chaize manages to avoid it.

Matrix looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Matrix is breathing heavily.
Matrix has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Matrix there as he acknowledges the shot.

Matrix doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Matrix is still on wobbly legs! Can Chaize finish him?

Matrix looks up at the clock. Bad move! Chaize lands a right hand from hell, dropping Matrix. Chaize pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.
