Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Sydney Tate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Grant Hopkins!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Glass and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hopkins forces Tate back against the cage and clinches.

Hopkins lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Tate wants to get back to full guard.
Tate wants to control but Hopkins is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Hopkins decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Hopkins pushes Tate up against the cage in a clinch.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hopkins is taking a breather. Tate says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hopkins in particular looking to stall.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Hopkins shoots in and bounces Tate off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Hopkins got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tate has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hopkins has managed to get both his arms back between Tate's legs - danger averted.

Tate is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tate is on top in guard.

Hopkins pulls Tate in close to his closed guard and prevents Tate from doing any damage or advancing position.

Hopkins wants to sweep here but Tate controlling him for the moment.
Tate not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Tate gets to his feet. Hopkins looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Tate is looking to clinch.

Hopkins looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Tate!

Tate wants to get back to his feet but Hopkins drags him back down.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Tate shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hopkins sprawls well. Hopkins wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Tate gets slowly back to his feet.

Hopkins fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Tate sprawls well initially but Hopkins persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Tate manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Hopkins lands with a kick to the ribs.

Tate gets caught flat footed, as Hopkins shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Tate wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Hopkins manages to pass to side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Tate is not content to let Hopkins control the position.

Tate actively working from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hopkins wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tate keeps working.
Tate moves into full guard.
Hopkins sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Tate's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hopkins controlling the action here.
Hopkins wants to take a breather but Tate is having none of it.
Hopkins is breathing heavily.
Hopkins prevents Tate from standing back up.
Hopkins is controlling the pace.
Tate wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hopkins is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tate sees it coming and defends easily.
Tate is looking for a sweep. Hopkins is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hopkins is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tate doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hopkins.
Grant Hopkins has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hopkins wants to take a breather but Tate is having none of it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hopkins tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tate swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Hopkins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Tate has closed the distance and engaged Hopkins in a clinch.

Hopkins drags the fight down to the ground.
Tate is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Tate avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Tate chips away with some ground and pound.
Tate makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Tate stands up over Hopkins, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Hopkins is trying to keep Tate in close.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tate controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Tate is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sydney Tate will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Tate tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hopkins manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Grant Hopkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hopkins drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Tate bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Tate tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hopkins swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hopkins throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Tate jumps guard but Hopkins stands there with Tate around his waist. Tate gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Hopkins is trying to trip Tate. He has hold of a leg but Tate is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Hopkins persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Hopkins takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Tate looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hopkins has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tate is proving hard to escape from.

Tate looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Tate is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hopkins wants to control from the top but Tate keeps moving.
Tate lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hopkins can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Tate's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Tate postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Tate is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Hopkins had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tate defends it easily.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sydney Tate.
I think Tate has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
