PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Winston Smith (ranked 5940 p4p, 463 weight class) and Jordan Jackson (ranked 3884 p4p, 381 weight class). Jackson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Puff Daddy-Victory (ft. Notorious B.I.G & Busta Rhymes). Jordan Jackson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Winston Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jordan Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith gets caught flat footed, as Jackson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Smith working for a triangle but Jackson defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jackson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smith looking for a sweep. Not yet Smith, not yet.
Jackson tries to free his leg and advance position but Smith is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jackson controls from within his opponent's guard.
Jackson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
It looks like Jackson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Smith has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Let's hope that Jackson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Jackson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Smith did well to prevent Jackson getting side control.
Smith tries to kick Jackson off in order to stand up. Jackson Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Jackson is staying tight to Smith's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Smith is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Jackson content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Smith tries to control but Jackson manages to take his back.

Jackson has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Smith's body.
Smith is trying to get back to his feet but Jackson has full control of the position and if anything, Smith has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Jackson controlling the position well here. Smith rolled but Jackson kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Jackson is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Smith reverses the position - he's now on top in Jackson's guard.

and Jackson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Jackson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jackson as he avoids it easily.
Jordan Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Smith is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Smith is letting Jackson control him for a moment.

Jackson tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Smith is trying to control Jackson's posture but Jackson avoids it.

You can see the frustration on Smith's face as Jackson controls the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
And Jackson tries to counter it with a takedown but Smith pushes his down on his head and steps out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Winston Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Smith gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Smith is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Smith wants to sweep here but Jackson controlling him for the moment.
Jackson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Jackson distracts Smith with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jackson stays in close to Smith's body and controls the position.

Jordan Jackson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Jackson lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Smith down.

Smith seems a little lost for a moment, as Jackson dominates the positioning.
Jordan Jackson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Smith is trying to control Jackson's posture but Jackson avoids it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Jackson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Smith quickly recovers to half guard.

Smith manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Jackson has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Jackson throws a looping overhand right but Smith ducks down to avoid it.

Jackson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smith sprawls well initially but Jackson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jackson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Jordan Jackson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jackson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
