Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Richie Simpson (ranked 1593 p4p, 197 weight class) and Lamont King (ranked 1521 p4p, 191 weight class). King has chosen King For A Day - Green Day as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richie Simpson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lamont King!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simpson throws a hook but King blocks it.
King fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
King throws a head kick but Simpson moves out of range.
King waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Simpson.
Simpson uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from King.
King lands a jab to the head.
Simpson misses with an uppercut. King saw that one coming.
King thuds his right hand into Simpson's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
King shoots in for a double leg but Simpson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A punch lands to the side of Simpson 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Simpson staying out of range there.
King throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Simpson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Simpson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but King moves away.
King punishes Simpson's body with a nice straight punch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters circling - King throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
A little feinted left hand from Simpson on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
King slips under a jab.
King has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
King cracks Simpson with a good jab.
Simpson's jab looks to have found its range, popping King under the eye.
Simpson misses with a hook. King ducked under it nicely.
A combination from King does no damage.
Simpson swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
King misses the shot to the body.

King has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from King there as he acknowledges the shot.
King throws a head kick that Simpson semi-blocks.
Some wild striking there from King.
Simpson misses with a looping left.
King looks to land a left hand but Simpson moved out of range nicely.
A little feinted left hand from Simpson on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

King cracks Simpson with a right hand to the side of the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Simpson connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Simpson connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed King momentarily.
Simpson throws out a loose jab but King uses good head movement to avoid it.
King changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Simpson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
King gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Simpson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
King digs a good body shot into Simpson's ribs.
King keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Simpson throws a lazy right hand but King sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
King throws a jab when Simpson was well out of range.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Simpson takes one on the chin but seems OK.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lamont King dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


King has his takedown stuffed
and Simpson counters with a straight right hand.

Simpson is looking to counter punch.
King ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
It seemed like King was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
King has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Simpson lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.


King is rocked!
Simpson lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
King is still on wobbly legs! Can Simpson finish him?
King bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Simpson defending well as King loads up on a big left hand.
King seems to have recovered his senses.
King throws a lazy right hand but Simpson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
King lands a really nice looking cross but Simpson seems unphased.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Simpson throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck King on the side of the head.

King misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Simpson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from King.
Simpson cracks King with a right hand to the side of the head.

Simpson misses with a straight right.
King lands with a hook. Simpson tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
King throws an overhand right that lands on Simpson's shoulder, as Simpson tries to avoid the shot.
King fails to land the takedown.
Richie Simpson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lamont King.
King misses with the combination.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King cracks Simpson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
King fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Simpson manages to avoid it.
King throws an off balance right hand
and Simpson counters with a lovely straight right hand!
King swinging wildly here.
Simpson has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from King.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

An attempted straight right counter from Simpson misses the target.
King takes one to the side of the head.
King goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Lamont King will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

King dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Simpson. That did some damage!

It looked like Simpson wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Simpson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but King was well out of range. Poor timing from Simpson.
King loads up on a big right hand but Simpson slips the punch.
King connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
King throws a lazy uppercut
and Simpson counters with a straight right hand.
King misses the jab.
Simpson is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Simpson on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Simpson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
King's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and King duly obliges.
Simpson uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from King.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Simpson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
King goes for a double leg but Simpson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Simpson continues to drive forward.

Simpson lands a nice shot to the body.
King misses with a straight left.

Simpson feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends King sprawling to the canvas! King rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Simpson finish him?!
A looping hook to the body misses from King. Simpson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Simpson ducks under a wild hook from King.
King walks straight into a right hand from Simpson - that's dropped him! Simpson jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save King from any more punishment! King complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Richie Simpson!
Richie Simpson retains his lightweight title!
After winning the bout, Richie Simpson thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
