PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between ALex Waid (ranked 7217 p4p, 570 weight class) and Petyr Kruchevski (ranked 2606 p4p, 310 weight class). Kruchevski has chosen My Way by Limp Bizkit as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. ALex Waid is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, ALex Waid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Petyr Kruchevski!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kruchevski is defended easily by Waid.
Waid fails with the takedown
and Kruchevski counters with a left to the body.

Kruchevski closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Waid scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Kruchevski manages to mount him!
Kruchevski lands a big shot there that rocks Waid but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Kruchevski thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Kruchevski tries to control but Waid wriggling away.

Kruchevski should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Waid keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Kruchevski can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Waid is looking to escape.

Waid is squirming around, avoiding Kruchevski's attempts to control the action.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kruchevski tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Kruchevski can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Waid is looking to escape.
Waid really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Waid tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Petyr Kruchevski dominated that round.
That's time! Waid's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Kruchevski shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Waid defends it nicely.

Waid looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Waid is trying to control the action in half guard but Kruchevski is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Waid is nestled in close to Kruchevski, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Kruchevski is looking to control Waid's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kruchevski avoid being mounted?

Kruchevski throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Kruchevski told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Kruchevski has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kruchevski wants to sweep here but Waid controlling him for the moment.
Waid connects with a couple of short punches.
Waid throws a big elbow that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kruchevski wants to stand but Waid is controlling the position.
Waid is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Waid postures up.
Waid connects with a couple of short punches.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kruchevski utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kruchevski is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Waid keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kruchevski's head.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Kruchevski shoots in but Waid avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Waid has Kruchevski pushed against the cage.
Waid is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Kruchevski is defending well.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for ALex Waid. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kruchevski keeps control of Waid as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Waid shoots in and bounces Kruchevski off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Kruchevski wants to get back to his feet but Waid is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kruchevski is trying to control the position but Waid postures up.
Waid looking to sit in guard and control but Kruchevski gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Waid is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kruchevski is controlling him.

Kruchevski is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Kruchevski tries to advance to mount but Waid denies him.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Petyr Kruchevski.
I think Kruchevski has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Petyr Kruchevski decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
