Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Brown (ranked 1707 p4p, 211 weight class) and Jan Paul Valens (ranked 1907 p4p, 227 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
31 - 38 - 3, fighting out of Hilo, John Brown! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jan Paul Valens! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Columbo Gatti and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Valens bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Brown scores to the head and body with a nice combination! No joy there for Brown, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Brown lands with a cross. Brown shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Valens's guard. Valens wriggles free and stands up. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A swing and a miss from Valens. Brown is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Valens. Brown keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Valens. Brown ducks under a wild hook from Valens. Brown looks for a takedown but Valens sprawls well. We've been hearing reports that Brown has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Brown throws a leg kick but Valens sees it coming and checks it nicely. Valens finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

and Brown counters with a nice body shot. A jab from Valens misses. Valens has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Brown shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Brown was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Valens might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Brown throws a series of strikes that have Valens backpedaling.

Brown shoots in looking for a takedown but Valens manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Brown's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Brown went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Brown fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Brown working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Valens tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Brown wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Valens regains half guard, as Brown was trying to land strikes. John Brown is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Valens misses with a straight right. Brown throws a big counter combination but Valens scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Brown punishes Valens's body with a nice straight punch. Brown looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Valens thuds his right hand into Brown's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Valens lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

That's going to take a lot out of him. Valens feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Brown sprawling to the canvas! Brown rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Valens finish him?!
Brown is rocked! Jan Paul Valens seems to be getting the better of the standup. Valens thows a left - swing and a miss! Oh Brown is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Brown slips a straight right by Valens. Valens throws a hook to the side of Brown's head but Brown sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Valens lands a jab and follows it up with a massive straight that knocks Brown out cold! Brown is crumpled in the corner, his head only propped up by the cage! That's one for the organiziational promos right there! Wow, what a finish!
