Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mckinley Vargas (ranked 6213 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuri Markov (ranked 3868 p4p, 134 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mckinley Vargas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Yuri Markov!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Markov gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Vargas counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Markov dives in and grabs Vargas's left leg, looking for a takedown. Vargas pushes down on Markov's head and hops out.

Markov moves into range and clinches up with Vargas.
Markov fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Markov tries to pull guard but Vargas holds him up against the cage and eventually Markov drops back down to his feet.
Mckinley Vargas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yuri Markov.
Markov tries to break the clinch but Vargas is controlling the position.
Markov is trying to push Vargas away but Vargas has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Markov misses with a hook to the ribs.
Vargas could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Vargas goes for a takedown attempt but Markov pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Markov moves into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vargas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Vargas shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Markov sprawls well. Markov wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Vargas gets slowly back to his feet.
Markov slaps away a takedown attempt from Vargas, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Vargas closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Vargas lands in his opponent's guard.
Vargas throws a big right hand that misses.

Vargas gets to his feet. Markov looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Vargas gets tackled into the cage by Markov. Markov maintains the clinch.
Markov fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Markov looks winded!
Markov stops a takedown attempt from Vargas.
Markov tries to throw a body punch but Vargas avoids it by throwing Markov back against the cage.

Markov breaks the clinch.
Markov fails with a takedown attempt.
Vargas tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Markov manages to circle out of the way.

Vargas has a takedown stuffed.

Markov drives through and clinches with Vargas against the cage.
Markov tries to pull guard but Vargas forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Markov breaks from the clinch.

Markov closes the distance and pushes Vargas back into the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Markov tries to land a knee to the head but Vargas blocks with his arms.
Vargas goes for a takedown attempt but Markov pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Yuri Markov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Markov scores with a head kick. Vargas tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Vargas closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Markov is trying to stall.
Markov has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Vargas seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Markov can turn it around.
Markov drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Vargas gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Vargas manages to break the clinch.

Vargas closes the distance and pushes Markov back into the cage.
Vargas has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Markov is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Vargas keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Markov's efforts to push away.
Markov wants to get back to striking at distance but Vargas won't allow it.

Vargas changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Markov looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Markov throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Markov has Vargas up against the cage in a clinch.
Markov is trying to pull guard but Vargas has him pressed against the cage.
Vargas drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Markov gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Markov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Markov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Vargas counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Markov thinking.
Markov misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Vargas seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Markov displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Vargas.
Markov lands with a nice combination. Vargas backs away looking to recover.

Vargas shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Markov but Markov pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Vargas fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Markov avoids it really well and circles away.

Vargas fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Markov sprawls well initially but Vargas persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Markov has one foot on Vargas's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Markov shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Vargas eats them both and turns towards Markov to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Vargas keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Markov defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Vargas.

Markov gets underhooks to prevent Vargas's takedown attempt.

Markov manages to break the clinch.
Markov fails to land with a series of punches.

Markov rushes Vargas and presses him up against the cage.
Markov has had enough of the clinch but Vargas keeps him there for the moment.
Markov tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Markov keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Vargas slips a nice elbow through Markov's hands, connecting with Markov's forehead.
Vargas thows a huge punch but Markov dodges it nicely.

Vargas might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Markov is looking to stand back up but Vargas counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Markov.

Vargas thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Vargas decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Markov fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Vargas, pushing him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yuri Markov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Vargas scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Vargas stalling away here and it's allowed Markov to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Markov keeping moving, preventing Vargas from controlling successfully.

Vargas throws an elbow that misses. Markov uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Vargas's guard. Nice move by Markov!

Markov gets to his feet and stands over Vargas, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Vargas felt that one! Markov unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Vargas from any more punishment!
