PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Russel Bell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Torres comes to the cage accompanied by Tango. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Miguel Torres!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Russel Bell!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Let's hope that Bell has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Bell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Torres's guard.
Torres on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Torres tries to get out of the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Despite being in the dominant position, Russel Bell just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Torres lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Bell misses with a takedown attempt - Torres sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Bell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Torres swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Bell's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Bell pushes down on Torres's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Bell is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Torres is trying to stand up here but Bell is controlling him well.
Bell takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Bell pushes Torres up against the cage in a clinch.
Bell tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Torres smiles and moves away.
Bell shoots for a double leg takedown but Torres sprawls well. He's pushed Bell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Bell tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Bell shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Torres's guard.

Bell stays in close to Torres's body and controls the position.

Russel Bell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Bell shoots for a takedown but Torres saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Bell looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Miguel Torres has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Russel Bell.
Bell thows a body shot but no joy.
Bell changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Torres tries to avoid it but Bell manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Torres to the ground. Torres escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Russel Bell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bell has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Torres uses from the top position.

Bell shoots for a double leg takedown but Torres sprawls well. He's pushed Bell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Horrible takedown by Bell or perhaps it was just good defense by Torres which made him look bad.

Torres has momentary wrist control but Bell slips an elbow through the middle.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bell sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Torres's guard.
Miguel Torres has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Russel Bell is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Bell is working for a kimura but Torres is defending it quite comfortably.

And that's the end of the fight!
Russel Bell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Bell winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
