Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Baloni (ranked 5017 p4p, 473 weight class) and Ben Roller (ranked 5422 p4p, 493 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Roller!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roller is working for a kimura but Baloni is defending it quite comfortably.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Roller counters with a shoot takedown. Baloni fights it but they end up in guard.

Roller has gone for a leg lock! Baloni slips out almost immediately though and dives into Roller's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roller can do anything to dispel that myth.
Roller wants to sweep here but Baloni controlling him for the moment.

Roller is looking for a triangle but Baloni pushes his legs off easily.

Baloni got a little sloppy there for a moment and Roller has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Baloni has managed to get both his arms back between Roller's legs - danger averted.

Roller is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Baloni is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Roller shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Baloni sprawls well. Baloni wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Roller gets slowly back to his feet.

Roller isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Baloni stacks Roller on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Baloni!
Roller tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Baloni wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Roller has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Roller drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Baloni manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Roller has Baloni in his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Roller is continuing to stall.

A close second round but Ben Roller will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Roller shoots in looking for a takedown but Baloni manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Roller's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Roller using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Baloni has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Roller is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Baloni gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
