Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ernest Graves (ranked 861 p4p, 113 weight class) and Scott Smith (ranked 2417 p4p, 279 weight class). Scott Smith has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ernest Graves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Scott Smith!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Graves's corner calls for a 1-2. Graves obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.


It looks like Scott Smith has been cut.
Graves lands a nice shot that snaps Smith's head back.
Smith fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nice sprawl there from Graves as Smith shoots in.
Ernest Graves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Smith.
Graves pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt - Graves sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Graves gets the takedown into side control.
Smith looking for a sweep but Graves has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Smith is trying to escape the mount but Graves keeps good control and instead manages to take Smith's back.

Smith is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Graves gets his way!

Graves is looking for the choke from the back position but Smith is controlling his hands well.
Graves is hanging on to Smith's back as he tries to escape.
Graves is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Smith up.
Graves is not going to allow Smith to sit and survive in this position.
Smith is really stuck here.
Graves tries to get the hooks in deep but Smith pushed the leg off.

Graves looking to break Smith's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Smith remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Graves will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Graves has the hooks in. Smith is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Graves is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Smith up.

Graves working for a choke but Smith is defending well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Smith manages to reverse the position and now he's in Graves's guard. Nice work there by Smith.

Graves bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smith's guard.

Graves passes Smith's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Smith with the active half guard here but Graves passes nicely into side control.
Smith takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Smith is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Graves moves into full mount!
Graves lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Graves trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith is trying to escape the mount.
Smith is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Smith is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Graves has taken his back.
Smith is trying to break free.
Smith trying to control the hands but Graves breaks the grip.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Graves patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Graves has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Smith has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Smith takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Smith looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Graves is fending him off so far but Smith persists. Nope, Graves circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith goes for a double leg but Graves avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Graves continues to drive forward.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Ernest Graves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Smith.

Graves ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Smith takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Jab, jab by Graves - just one landing.


Smith is rocked!
Smith throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Graves's waist but Graves gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smith off to one side.
It looked like Graves wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Graves lands a jab and follows it up with a massive straight that knocks Smith out cold! Smith is crumpled in the corner, his head only propped up by the cage! That's one for the organiziational promos right there! Wow, what a finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ernest Graves!
An out of breath Ernest Graves thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
