PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Maeda (ranked 863 p4p, 112 weight class) and Cyrius Python (ranked 1075 p4p, 144 weight class). Maeda's entrance music is Submission. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Maeda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Cyrius Python!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maeda cracks Python with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Python gets tackled into the cage by Maeda. Maeda maintains the clinch.
Maeda misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Maeda breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Crunch! Python slams his shin into Maeda's torso.
Maeda misses with a lunging right hand
and Python counters with a slapping leg kick.
Maeda swings for the body but Python moves out of range.
Maeda avoids the head kick by Python.

Maeda shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Maeda is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Python defends it well.
Maeda is looking to take a break and control but Python is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Maeda throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Maeda passes the guard and advances to mount!

Python is trying to escape the mount.

Maeda is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Python can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Maeda fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Maeda has hold of Python's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Python manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Maeda tries to advance position but instead Python slips a leg back in to half guard.

Maeda is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Maeda is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Python won't allow Maeda to pass to mount.
Python tries to roll over but Maeda keeps him under control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Maeda performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Maeda is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Python is just riding it out for now. Maeda eventually gives up the hold.

Python wants to get back to his feet.

Maeda is looking for a kimura but Python is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Maeda to get the leverage.

Maeda is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Roosters Coop that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Maeda advances position into side control!
Python pushes Maeda away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Maeda gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Maeda moves into full mount!

Python has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Maeda's lack of action.
Maeda working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Maeda looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Maeda pushes a forearm under Python's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Python is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
