PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dalinar Kholin (ranked 3906 p4p, 351 weight class) and Mike Haggar (ranked 2990 p4p, 297 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mike Haggar was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Haggar!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haggar fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kholin manages to avoid it.
Kholin changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Haggar throws a body shot but no joy.
Kholin fails to land the takedown.

Kholin feints and as Haggar raises his hands in defense, Kholin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Haggar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kholin wants to control from the top but Haggar keeps moving.
Haggar bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kholin's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Haggar won't allow Kholin to sweep him here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kholin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Haggar manages to get himself to full guard.

Kholin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kholin is looking for a sweep. Haggar is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kholin is looking to control Haggar's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kholin avoid being mounted?

Kholin tries to get to full guard but Haggar has control of the leg.

Haggar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Kholin manages to get back to half guard.
Haggar wants to free his trapped foot but Kholin is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Haggar connects with a nice short shot to Kholin's temple.
Haggar looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kholin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Haggar lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kholin manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Haggar wants to pass the guard but Kholin is keeping the position.
Haggar postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Kholin controls Haggar momentarily but Haggar frees himself.
Haggar working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kholin's head.
Haggar pushing down on Kholin's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Haggar is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Haggar uses his free foot to push down on Kholin's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kholin.

BOOM! Haggar connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Haggar lands a heavy elbow.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Oh Kholin is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Haggar cracks Kholin with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Haggar!
