Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hobert Vance! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rafael Da Silva! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Da Silva tries to clinch up but Vance circles away and keeps his distance. Vance feinted with a counter takedown. Nice sprawl there from Da Silva as Vance shoots in. Vance throws a poor cross that misses
and Da Silva counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Da Silva. Vance will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Vance keeping moving, preventing Da Silva from controlling successfully. Da Silva is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Da Silva working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Da Silva's corner is telling him to maintain position. Vance really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Da Silva has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Vance is proving hard to escape from. Vance is trying to control the position but Da Silva postures up.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Vance fails with a takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Da Silva shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Da Silva's corner is telling him to maintain position. Vance bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Da Silva's guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vance accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Da Silva throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Vance slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Da Silva can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vance is looking to work some ground and pound but Da Silva has wrist control. Vance controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Vance seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Da Silva for as long as he can get away with. Vance trying to control the position from guard on top but Da Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Vance stays in close to Da Silva's body and controls the position.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Da Silva shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Da Silva showed some decent athleticism there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vance avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Da Silva. Da Silva tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Vance. Vance wants to control but Da Silva is keeping busy.
Da Silva looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Da Silva keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rafael Da Silva dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Da Silva scores with a hook to the body. Vance takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Da Silva gets the takedown into side control. Da Silva trying to control the action but Vance is working from the bottom. Vance stops Da Silva from passing to mount. Vance sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Da Silva prevents Vance from improving his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Da Silva working over Vance with some ground and pound. Vance looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Vance trying to control here.
Vance is not content to let Da Silva control the position. Da Silva perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Ground and pound from Da Silva. Da Silva wants to get back to his feet.
Vance works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Da Silva wanted to stand there but Vance had control of the position. Da Silva has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Da Silva is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Da Silva looking to sit in guard and control but Vance gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Da Silva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Vance not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Da Silva not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Da Silva is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Vance is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Da Silva working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Vance. Da Silva can't keep his opponent in guard - Vance advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Vance sitting and controlling from the half guard. Da Silva has hold of Vance's hands but Vance slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Vance keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Vance continues to stall. Vance not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Da Silva shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Da Silva was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Vance is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Da Silva off and has taken his back! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Da Silva is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Vance has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Hobert Vance will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Da Silva shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Vance manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Da Silva stands up and waves to Vance to follow him. Hobert Vance is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Da Silva throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A little feinted left hand from Vance on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Vance gets a double leg takedown into Da Silva's guard. Vance throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vance is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Vance won't allow Da Silva to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vance is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Vance's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Further stalling from Vance. This is a sustained period of stalling by Vance. Da Silva has momentary wrist control but Vance slips an elbow through the middle. Vance is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Vance continues to hold on tight. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Da Silva seems keen to control Vance's posture. Vance throws a big right hand that misses.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Da Silva feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Vances jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Vance slips under a jab. Da Silva looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Da Silva trying to control from Vance's half guard. Vance has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Da Silva looking to sit in guard and control but Vance gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vance is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Da Silva tries to land a sweep but no joy. Vance seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Da Silva takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Da Silva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Vance has hold of Da Silva's hands but Da Silva slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Vance slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Vance had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Da Silva defends it easily. Da Silva wants to pass the guard but Vance is keeping the position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Da Silva cracks Vance with a solid left hand.
And that's the end of the fight! Rafael Da Silva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Da Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
