PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Octavio Howe (ranked 23986 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oscar Del Meyers (ranked 6734 p4p, 0 weight class). Oscar Del Meyers told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Octavio Howe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oscar Del Meyers!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, John Roberts and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Howe gets a takedown into half guard.
Del Meyers looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Del Meyers pushes Howe off looking to stand but Howe dives back in and keeps control.

Howe wants to work for an arm triangle but Del Meyers is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Howe is working for a kimura but Del Meyers is defending it quite comfortably.

Howe is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Del Meyers doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Howe.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Del Meyers wants to control but Howe is keeping busy.

Howe throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Howe is working for a submission of some sort.

Howe is looking for a kimura but Del Meyers is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Howe to get the leverage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Del Meyers is trying to stand.
Howe working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Howe is looking for a kimura but Del Meyers is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Howe to get the leverage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Howe closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Del Meyers did well to prevent Howe getting side control.

Howe decides to stand and escape the position.
Howe dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

and Howe counters with a stiff right hand.

Howe shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Del Meyers napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Howe thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Del Meyers is trying to work for a sweep but Howe has mounted him!

Howe looks to land a combination. Del Meyers sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Howe shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Howe was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Del Meyers is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Howe is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Del Meyers is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Howe remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Howe is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Del Meyers is surviving well by controlling Howe's body position as best he can.

Howe has control of Del Meyers's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Del Meyers regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Howe wants to finish this one by submission but Del Meyers is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Howe.

Howe is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Howe has the hooks in. Del Meyers is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Oscar Del Meyers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Octavio Howe is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Howe looking to break Del Meyers's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Del Meyers remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Howe will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Well Howe has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
