PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Toru Nakamura (ranked 2053 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Snow (ranked 5863 p4p, 426 weight class). Jan Snow told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Toru Nakamura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jan Snow!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Roberts and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Snow throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Nakamura on the side of the head.

Nakamura closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Nakamura misses with a hook to the ribs.
Snow lands a shoulder strike.
Snow misses with a body punch.
Nakamura lands a left hand.
Nakamura prevents Snow from breaking the clinch.
Snow misses with a hook from the clinch.

Snow escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Snow takes one on the button.
Nakamura moves in looking to clinch but Snow pushes him off.
A big left from Nakamura misses.
Snow shapes to counter with a head kick.
Snow throws a head kick but Nakamura moves out of range.
A punch combination from Nakamura misses.
Snow misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nakamura ducks under a wild hook from Snow.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nakamura checks a low kick from Snow.
Snow misses the jab.
Snow punishes Nakamura's body with a nice straight punch.
Snow shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Nakamura connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Snow momentarily.

Snow moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Nakamura tries to clinch but Snow moves out of range.

Nakamura feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Snow sprawling to the canvas! Snow rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Nakamura finish him?!


Snow is rocked!
Snow looks to land a body kick but Nakamura moved away.
Snow throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Nakamura's head.


It looks like Toru Nakamura has been cut.
Nakamura doesn't manage to clinch there - Snow circles away.
Nakamura paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Snow throws out a loose jab but Nakamura uses good head movement to avoid it.
Nakamura looks to throw the jab but Snow is out of range.
Nice defenses there by Snow.
Snow throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nakamura fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Snow looks to land a combination but Nakamura avoids it well.
Nakamura wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Nakamura closes the distance and clinches.
Snow misses with a hook from the clinch.
Snow is trying to break the clinch but Nakamura is controlling him.
Snow wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Nakamura has him pressed against the cage.

Nakamura prevents Snow from breaking the clinch.
Nakamura drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Snow gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Nakamura throws a head punch that misses.
Nakamura tries to pull guard but Snow holds him up against the cage and eventually Nakamura drops back down to his feet.

Nakamura is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Snow is defending well.
Nakamura tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Snow smiles and moves away.

Still in the clinch, Snow scores with a nice short uppercut.

Nakamura has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Snow is trying to keep an underhook but Nakamura manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Snow tries to roll over but Nakamura keeps him under control.
Snow won't allow Nakamura to pass to mount.

Nakamura is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Nakamura is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Snow defends it well.

Nakamura stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Snow connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Nakamura blocks a head kick by Snow.
Nakamura jabs Snow to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Nakamura wants to take the fight to the mat but Snow manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Snow is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Nakamura tries for a takedown. No joy.
Nakamura tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nakamura lands a hook that snaps the head of Snow backwards.
Nakamura is trying to pull guard but Snow turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Nakamura tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Snow smiles and moves away.
Snow cracks Nakamura with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Snow swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Nakamura forces Snow back against the cage and clinches.

Snow manages to break the clinch.
Nakamura is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Nakamura drives through and clinches with Snow against the cage.
A head punch on the inside from Nakamura fails to land.

Nakamura wants the takedown. Snow is fighting it off but Nakamura persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Snow's guard against the cage.
Nakamura stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Snow swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Nakamura drops back, looking for a kneebar! Snow looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Snow looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Snow!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Toru Nakamura will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Nakamura gets control of Snow's arms and successfully pulls guard. Nakamura will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Snow decides to stand back up. Snow steps back and let's Nakamura get back to his feet.
Snow throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nakamura is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Snow is pressed up against the cage. Nakamura has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Snow down to the mat. Snow avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Snow counters with a three punch combo that has Nakamura backing up. Nakamura nods at Snow to acknowledge the strikes.

Snow throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Nakamura.

Jan Snow decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
