Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sul Matuul! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Halldor Omarsson! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Bruno Lombardi and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Omarsson misses with a head kick.
Matuul drops down looking for a counter takedown but Omarsson sprawls and moves away. Omarsson throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Matuul.
It looks like Sul Matuul has been cut. Omarsson scores with a head kick.
Matuul clinches with his opponent.
Matuul pulls guard. Matuul bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Omarsson's guard.
Matuul thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Omarsson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Matuul accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Omarsson wants to get back to his feet but Matuul is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Matuul not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Omarsson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Matuul. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Matuul is looking to work some ground and pound but Omarsson has wrist control. Matuul wants to get up but he can't break Omarsson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Matuul is stalling in the full guard. Omarsson wants to stand but Matuul is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Omarsson is wriggling around but Matuul manages to pass to half guard.
Omarsson is trying to stand up here but Matuul is controlling him well. Omarsson is in trouble now - Matuul has advanced to mount! Matuul controlling from the full mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Matuul tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment. Omarsson's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matuul is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Matuul extends the arm and Omarsson is forced to tap!
