Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Merel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Crack Head! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Phil Schofield and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Merel cracks Head with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Head uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Merel. Merel takes a swing at Head's ribcage but misses. Merel bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Head's head. Merel takes a swing at Head's ribcage but misses. Merel shoots in looking for a takedown. Head tries to sprawl out of it but Merel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Head tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Merel was well out of range. Poor timing from Head. Head throws a predictable looking body shot
and Merel counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

It looks like Crack Head has been cut. Merel lands a right hook to the body.
Head swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Merel throws a body shot but no joy. Mark Merel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Merel fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Merel moves out of range as Head strikes. Merel just misses with a punch to the body.
Merel misses the shot to the body. Merel lunges at Head with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Head's hand. Head misses with a right hand and Merel counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Merel takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Head drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Merel lands a body shot.
Head thuds his right hand into Merel's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Head throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Head misses with a hook. Head stuffs the takedown attempt from Merel. Merel gets slowly back to his feet. Merel shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Head defends it nicely. Head swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Merel. That's going to take a lot out of him. Merel scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Merel moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

and Head counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Merel tries to score a power double leg takedown but Head sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Merel somewhat. Merel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. A telegraphed right hand from Merel misses the target. Head throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. An attempted straight right counter from Merel misses the target. Merel lands with an uppercut that bounces Head off the cage and back into range. Merel connects with a body shot that sends Head's belly button to the back. Nice shot by Head. Merel throws a body shot but no joy. Merel is looking to wear down Head with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Merel throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Head sees it coming and avoids it easily. Head misses with a looping right. Merel shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Head manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. This has been an exciting period of action! Head being controlled here, momentarily. Head working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Merel. Merel pushing down on Head's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Head is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Merel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Merel is figuring out what he wants to do next. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mark Merel dominated that round. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. That's time! Back to the action!
A looping hook to the body misses from Merel. Head does a little dance to reset his feet. Merel connects with a crisp jab. Merel swings and misses with a hook to the body.

It seemed like Head was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Mark Merel is winning the standup battle so far. Merel fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Head swings and misses with a shot to the body and Merel counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Merel lands with an uppercut that bounces Head off the cage and back into range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Merel tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Head defends well and Merel ends up having to push Head into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Head looks like he wants to counter punch here. Merel misses the shot to the body. Merel cracks Head with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Merel shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merel prevents Head from improving his position. Head blocking the ground and pound attempt from Merel. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Head is not content to let Merel control the position. Merel is figuring out what he wants to do next. Head on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Head wants to get back to full guard but Merel has mounted him!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Merel landing strikes from the mount and Head is in trouble! Merel raining down shots from the mount!
Head is rocked! Merel working the ground and pound effectively.
Head is still in real trouble! Can Merel finish him? Merel prevents Head from getting the reversal. Head seems to have recovered his senses. Merel has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Head's face.
Merel jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Head is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Head and Merel has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Head is looking for a sweep. Merel is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Head can do to turn this around? Merel working the head and body with strikes. Head is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Merel in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Merel controlling the position. Merel scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Head to see if he's OK.
That has opened up Crack Head's cut even more.

Merel creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Merel lands a decent elbow from side control. Merel trying to control the position but Head is working away. Merel cracks Head with a big right hand but Head just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Merel stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Merel gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Head counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Merel lands with a hook. Head tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Head cracks Merel with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Head swings for the body but Merel moves out of range.
Head staying out of range there. Head takes a body punch but keeps moving. Merel throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Head tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Merel is in Head's guard. Head is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Merel is pushing down on Head's leg trying to pass to half guard. Head is fighting to maintain full guard but Merel has managed to sneak the leg through.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merel is trying to work for a kimura but Head is defending well.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Merel lands a nice short elbow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Head has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Merel is on him like a limpet, forcing Head back against the cage. Merel gets through Head's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. A head punch on the inside from Merel fails to land. Merel blocks an uppercut.
Head blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Merel tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Head's elbow. A head punch blocked on the inside by Merel. Merel lands a nice uppercut. Head escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Merel is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Crack Head has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Merel throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Head's waist but Head gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Merel off to one side. Merel punishes Head's body with a nice straight punch. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Merel throws a right and a left that both miss. Head takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Head on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Head keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Merel. That's going to take a lot out of him. Merel blocks a jab. Merel lands a nice shot to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Merel closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Head is looking for a sweep. Head takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Merel scoring with punches and elbows. Merel is trying to get an arm triangle but Head is defending well. Head taking a bit of punishment here - Merel scoring with strikes. Merel wants to control but Head is keeping him busy. Merel is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Head will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Merel works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Merel controlling the position from side mount. Merel lands an elbow. Head takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Merel is chipping away with strikes.
Head is rocked! Merel trying to control the action but Head is working from the bottom. Head is still in real trouble! Can Merel finish him? Merel is chipping away with strikes.
And that's the end of the fight! Mark Merel showed his dominance in that final round. Well Merel has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
