Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Butts (ranked 2606 p4p, 314 weight class) and Thomas Frank (ranked 3637 p4p, 408 weight class). Butts kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Thong Song - Sisqo. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Butts! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Thomas Frank! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Butts misses with a wild body shot. Frank cracks Butts with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Butts looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Frank finish him?
Butts is rocked!
It looks like Joe Butts has been cut. Frank swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Frank misses with a double jab
and Butts decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Frank's guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Frank pulls Butts in close to his closed guard and prevents Butts from doing any damage or advancing position. Butts loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. We've been hearing that Butts has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Frank avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Butts trying to control the position from guard on top but Frank is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Frank keeping full guard, as Butts tries to pass.
That's one minute gone in the round. Butts distracts Frank with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Butts trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Frank keeping moving, preventing Butts from controlling successfully. Frank keeping full guard, as Butts tries to pass. Frank controlling the position. Butts slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Frank is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Frank keeps trying to improve his position. Butts misses with the ground and pound. Butts working the ground and pound but Frank is defending the strikes. Butts postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Butts working away. Butts tries to move into full mount but can't pass Frank's legs. You can see the frustration on Frank's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Frank takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Butts swings around for an armbar but Frank sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Butts's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Frank missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Frank in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Frank throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Butts works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Frank throwing strikes but missing. Frank makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Frank postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Frank wants to pass the guard but Butts is keeping the position. Butts controls Frank momentarily but Frank frees himself. Butts keeping moving, preventing Frank from controlling successfully. Butts working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Frank.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Frank's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Frank throws a big right hand that misses. Butts utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Frank connects with a couple of short punches. Frank must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Frank with a flurry of punches that miss. Frank with a nice head shot there.
Joe Butts's cut is getting worse. Butts is breathing heavily. Frank throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Butts works some decent striking defense from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Frank connects with a couple of short punches. Oh Butts is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Thomas Frank! After winning the bout, Thomas Frank thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
