Coming up we have a middleweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Franky Yip (ranked 2173 p4p, 257 weight class) and Red Cup (ranked 5920 p4p, 468 weight class). This should be a great matchup!
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 3 losses; Franky Yip! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 2 losses; Red Cup! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Arvi Lind.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Cup gets tackled into the ropes by Yip. Yip maintains the clinch. Cup jumps into guard, dragging Yip to the mat.
Yip drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Cup dives on top into guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Yip (0) vs (2) Cup Yip tries to land a sweep but no joy. Cup passes Yip's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Cup wants to take a breather but Yip is having none of it. Cup trying to control the pace. Cup moves nicely into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Yip (0) vs (5) Cup Yip gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Yip has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Cup performing his best blanket impression for a moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Let's hope that Cup has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Cup tries to pass the half guard into mount. Yip knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yip is looking for a sweep. Cup is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Yip is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cup pulls his head out easily. Yip tries to roll over but Cup keeps him under control. Yip won't allow Cup to pass to mount. Cup trying to control from half guard but Yip is working away. Cup prevents Yip from improving his position. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Yip is refusing to be controlled, as Cup sits in half guard. Cup sitting and controlling from the half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Cup. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. It looks like Cup might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Yip is trying to get back to full guard. Yip trying to hold on to Cup's head to control him but Cup postures up.
Cup wants to take a breather but Yip is having none of it. Yip tries to get to full guard but Cup has control of the leg. Cup is pressing down on Yip's thigh, looking to free his foot. Yip is holding on for now. Yip is looking for a sweep. Cup is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Yip gets full guard. Cup passes easily into side control. Nice work. Score +3 for passing guard: Yip (0) vs (8) Cup Cup tries to advance to mount but Yip denies him. Cup is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Yip manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Yip actively working from the bottom here. Yip is trying to control but can't.
Cup slows the pace down in half guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Yip tries to get to full guard but Cup has control of the leg. Yip trying to control from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cup with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Yip looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Cup tries to pass the half guard into mount. Yip knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Yip is defending against the submission attempts here by Cup.
Yip wants to control but Cup is keeping busy.
Cup wants to lay and pray for a moment but Yip keeps working. Yip regains full guard. Nicely done. Cup trying to control but Yip is working from the bottom. Yip is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cup defends well.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Cup trying to control the position from guard on top but Yip is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Yip working for a triangle but Cup defends it easily.
Cup drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Cup as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Yip screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Cup! Nice submission victory there!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Red Cup! A relieved looking Red Cup thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. |
