Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Xing Pugberg (ranked 890 p4p, 59 weight class) and Damen Mayer (ranked 912 p4p, 61 weight class). Damen Mayer struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 136.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Xing Pugberg! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 11 - 1, fighting out of New York, Damen Mayer! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pugberg fails to land the takedown. Pugberg shoots in looking for a takedown. Mayer tries to sprawl out of it but Pugberg keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mayer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Pugberg is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Pugberg decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Mayer moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Mayer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pugberg is aware though and is defending well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mayer looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Mayer is trying to control the position but Pugberg postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mayer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pugberg doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pugberg manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Mayer keeping moving, preventing Pugberg from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mayer is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Pugberg has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Mayer is trying to control Pugberg's posture but Pugberg avoids it. Pugberg working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Mayer tries to improve position but can't. Mayer struggling a bit here. Mayer is looking to reverse the position. Pugberg tries to move to mount but Mayer blocks the move with his legs. Pugberg is trying to get an arm triangle but Mayer is defending well. Pugberg advances to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mayer tries to hold on but Pugberg pushes him away. Mayer is trying to escape the mount but Pugberg keeps good control and instead manages to take Mayer's back.

Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Mayer. Pugberg keeping full guard, as Mayer tries to pass. Pugberg is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mayer thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mayer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pugberg has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mayer has managed to get both his arms back between Pugberg's legs - danger averted. Mayer advances position into side control! You can see the frustration on Pugberg's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Mayer tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Mayer looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Xing Pugberg will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Mayer slips a jab from Pugberg. Mayer connects with a crisp jab. Mayer keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Mayer uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Pugberg. Pugberg throws an overhand right that lands on Mayer's shoulder, as Mayer tries to avoid the shot. Mayer gets a takedown into half guard. Pugberg might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Mayer works his foot free and advances to mount. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pugberg keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Poor strikes thrown by Mayer there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mayer trying to control but he's not successful this time. Pugberg tries to hold on but Mayer pushes him away. Mayer working Pugberg over with strikes here. Mayer wants to control the pace but Pugberg is squirming around nicely. Mayer working for a submission but Pugberg is keeping him at bay. Mayer fails to move to back control. Damen Mayer has got the better of the ground game so far. Mayer is working for a guillotine from mount but Pugberg frees his head quite easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mayer forces the positional change into back control. Mayer controlling well, preventing Pugberg from escaping the position.
Mayer has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Pugberg rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Pugberg is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mayer's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mayer's back! Mayer trying to control the action but Pugberg just sinks the hooks in. Pugberg is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Mayer is defending well though. Pugberg let's go of the attempt for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Mayer is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Pugberg off and has taken his back! You can see the frustration on Pugberg's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Mayer is looking for the choke from the back position but Pugberg is controlling his hands well. Pugberg won't enjoy being in this position. Mayer looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Pugberg is tapping - it's over boys! Mayer picks up the submission victory!
