Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daana Wyte!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andrew Jones!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Francis DeMontford and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wyte throws an overhand right that lands on Jones's shoulder, as Jones tries to avoid the shot.
Jones is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Jones shoots in but Wyte avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jones closes the distance and clinches.
Jones jumps guard but Wyte turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Wyte is trying to push Jones away but Jones has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Wyte wants to get back to striking at distance but Jones won't allow it.
Jones pulls guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wyte would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Wyte stands and steps away. Jones gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Wyte lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
It looks like Andrew Jones has been cut.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones is working for takedown but Wyte is calmly controlling the position for now.
Daana Wyte has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew Jones.
Wyte escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jones attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Wyte lands a nice looking body shot.
Sloppy strikes from Wyte. Those never looked like landing.
Wyte throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Jones is rocked!
Jones drops his hands for a split second and Wyte immediately capitalizes on the opportunity by smashing a powerful hook into Jones face, sending his mouthguard sailing through the air, much to the delight of the crowd. Wyte follows up with a right hand that knocks Jones into next week. He's out cold and this fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Daana Wyte!
In his post fight interview, Daana Wyte gave a big smile as he said 'I am happy for this win.'.
In defeat, Andrew Jones stepped up to the mic, saying 'I'll be back, I've got way more to offer. '.
