The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spartan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Barreto Neto swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A big left from Barreto Neto misses.
Spartan tries to clinch up but Barreto Neto circles away and keeps his distance.
Spartan throws a sloppy head kick and Barreto Neto moves out of range easily.
Barreto Neto avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Barreto Neto fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Spartan on the side of the head.
Nice defenses there by Spartan.
Barreto Neto is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Spartan.
Spartan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barreto Neto's waist but Barreto Neto gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Spartan off to one side.
Barreto Neto misses with a straight left.
Spartan ducks straight into an uppercut from Barreto Neto and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Spartan maanges to regain guard straight away.

Spartan is rocked!

It looks like John Spartan has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Barreto Neto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Spartan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Barreto Neto is working hard here to advance position.

Barreto Neto sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Spartan's guard.

Barreto Neto wants to work for an arm triangle but Spartan is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Barreto Neto is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Spartan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Barreto Neto.
Barreto Neto is thwarting Spartan's attempts to control the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Barreto Neto seems to be working for a kimura but Spartan defends the submission attempt.
Spartan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Barreto Neto. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Spartan is looking for a sweep. Barreto Neto is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
