Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Deair Shaw! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Trey Harper! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Colin Fotheringham and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shaw tries to clinch up. Harper throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Shaw tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Harper is in Shaw's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Harper is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shaw is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Harper is concentrating on defense, preventing Shaw from advancing position. Shaw lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Harper actively working from the bottom here. Harper trying to control from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Harper looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Harper is looking to control Shaw's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Harper avoid being mounted?
That's one minute gone in the round. Harper actively working from the bottom here. Shaw not landing any meaningful shots this time. Harper is trying to control but can't.
Harper looking for a kimura from the bottom but Shaw passes into side control! Shaw tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Shaw decides to stand back up. Shaw steps back and let's Harper get back to his feet. Harper scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Shaw has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Harper trying to control the position but Shaw is working away. Harper tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Harper has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Harper looks winded! Harper thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shaw is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Harper off and has taken his back! A lull in the action here.
Harper trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Shaw tries to keep control of the position but Harper is staying busy. Shaw looking for the RNC. Harper wants to control his opponent's hands but Shaw gets his hands free.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Harper is trying to defend against the choke here but Shaw has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Shaw Tightens the hold and Harper taps out furiously! Shaw displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Deair Shaw! A less than humble Deair Shaw misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
