PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Isaiahjr Grantjr (ranked 7072 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franklin Dong (ranked 4782 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Isaiahjr Grantjr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Franklin Dong!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grantjr shoots in looking for a takedown but Dong manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Grantjr's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Grantjr tries to clinch up.

Dong moves into range and clinches up with Grantjr.

Dong ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Dong no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Dong is adopting a defensive guard.

Grantjr avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Dong looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dong wants to sweep here but Grantjr controlling him for the moment.

Dong pulls Grantjr in close to his closed guard and prevents Grantjr from doing any damage or advancing position.
Grantjr wants to stand but Dong has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Dong has control of Grantjr's left arm, preventing Grantjr from doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A combination from Dong does no damage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Dong tries to land a knee to the head but Grantjr blocks with his arms.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Dong is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Grantjr gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Grantjr is trying to drag Dong to the mat but Dong just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Grantjr is trying to pull guard but Dong has him pressed against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Isaiahjr Grantjr. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Grantjr wants to break free but Dong has control.
Grantjr goes for a takedown in the clinch but Dong prevents it.
Dong is pressed up against the cage. Grantjr has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Dong down to the mat. Dong avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Grantjr throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dong's waist but Dong gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Grantjr off to one side.

and Dong counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Grantjr is breathing heavily.
Dong passes Grantjr's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Dong perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Dong works his way into side control.
A lull in the action here.
Dong throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Dong slows the pace down.
Dong passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Grantjr!
Dong avoids the attempt from Grantjr to control.

Dong has hold of Grantjr's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Grantjr manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dong content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Franklin Dong dominated that round.
That's time! Grantjr's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Grantjr shoots in for a double leg but Dong sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Dong forces Grantjr back against the cage and clinches.
Dong is trying to push Grantjr away but Grantjr has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Dong lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Grantjr backwards.
Grantjr tries to break the clinch but Dong is controlling the position.
Dong tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Grantjr avoids it.
Dong wants to get back to striking at distance but Grantjr won't allow it.
Grantjr jumps guard but Dong stands there with Grantjr around his waist. Grantjr gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Grantjr wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Dong has him pressed against the cage.

Dong gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Dong is taking a breather. Grantjr says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grantjr keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Dong moves nicely into side control.
Dong controlling from side mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dong postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Dong stands up and beckons Grantjr to his feet.
Dong throws a leg kick but Grantjr moved away.

Dong darts in and clinches Grantjr up against the cage.
Grantjr throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Dong missing with knees to the body.

Grantjr is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Grantjr is fighting to break Dong's control of his arms but Dong is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Dong closes the distance and clinches.
Dong tries to score a body lock takedown but Grantjr shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Dong.
Dong has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Franklin Dong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Grantjr tries to break free but Dong pushes him back against the cage.
Grantjr throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Dong changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Grantjr fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Grantjr moves in looking to clinch but Dong pushes him off.

Dong pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Grantjr tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Dong is able to avoid easily.

Grantjr misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
No luck for Dong with that takedown attempt.
Grantjr keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Grantjr is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Dong.
Grantjr fails with a takedown attempt.
Dong tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Grantjr swivels and escapes.
As Dong looks to move away, Grantjr throws a big counter combo but Dong just gets out of the way.
A head kick misses from Dong.
Dong slaps away a takedown attempt from Grantjr, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Dong looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Dong moves into the clinch.
Grantjr is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Grantjr jumps guard but Dong stands there with Grantjr around his waist. Grantjr gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Dong drags the fight down to the ground.

Dong working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Grantjr doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Grantjr manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Grantjr wants to stand and escape but instead Dong has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Grantjr avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Dong thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Dong gets to his feet. Grantjr looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Dong ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Dong fails with the takedown.

Nice sprawl there from Grantjr as Dong shoots in.
Isaiahjr Grantjr has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Franklin Dong is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Dong shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Franklin Dong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Dong has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
