5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex Kent! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kent darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Wright Phillps is trying to maintain the position but Kent is very close to passing his half guard. The fighters are battling for position here. Wright Phillps manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Wright Phillps is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Wright Phillps is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wright Phillps utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kent showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kent trying to control the position from guard on top but Wright Phillps is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wright Phillps manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kent manages to get himself to full guard.
Wright Phillps wants to get up but he can't break Kent's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Wright Phillps slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Kent is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Kent looking for a sweep. Not yet Kent, not yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Wright Phillps trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Kent keeping moving, preventing Wright Phillps from controlling successfully. Wright Phillps with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Kent wants to sweep here but Wright Phillps controlling him for the moment. Kent will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Kent looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Wright Phillps puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Wright Phillps seems to be working for a kimura but Kent defends the submission attempt. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wright Phillps thows a huge punch but Kent dodges it nicely.
Kent is trying to get back to full guard. Wright Phillps wants to pass the guard but Kent is defending well. Kent wants to control the action here but instead Wright Phillps manages to pass to full mount! Kent working to try and regain half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Wright Phillps cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Kent looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Wright Phillps! Submission of the night perhaps?
