PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mavis Garbfink (ranked 4825 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Urlich (ranked 5745 p4p, 0 weight class). Urlich has chosen Terminator: Judgement Day as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Joseph Urlich!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Paul Tew and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Urlich shoots in looking for a takedown. Garbfink tries to sprawl out of it but Urlich keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Garbfink manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Garbfink closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Garbfink tries to break the clinch but Urlich is controlling the position.
Garbfink stalling in the clinch but Urlich improves position.
Garbfink has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Urlich after a bit of a struggle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Urlich gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Garbfink regains guard.

Garbfink escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Urlich gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Garbfink wants to sweep but no luck.
Urlich trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Urlich is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Garbfink is looking for a triangle here but Urlich uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Urlich looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Garbfink is avoiding damage well.
Urlich tries to score with some ground and pound. Garbfink controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Urlich has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA London. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Garbfink regains half guard there - taking advantage of Urlich's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Urlich is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Urlich decides to stand and escape the position.

Urlich scores with a takedown into Garbfink's guard.

Garbfink working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Urlich doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Urlich manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Urlich tries to free his leg and advance position but Garbfink is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Garbfink throws a left and a right that both miss

so Urlich counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Garbfink manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Garbfink creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Urlich gets control of Garbfink's arms and successfully pulls guard. Urlich will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Garbfink has gone for a leg lock! Urlich slips out almost immediately though and dives into Garbfink's guard.

Urlich decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Garbfink, up you get!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Urlich accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Urlich stands up over Garbfink, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Joseph Urlich is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Urlich wants to control from the top but Garbfink keeps moving.
Urlich really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Garbfink. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Urlich stands and steps away. Garbfink gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

I've got Urlich winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
