Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between OJ Pines (ranked 1258 p4p, 171 weight class) and Scott Hill (ranked 3496 p4p, 365 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, OJ Pines!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Scott Hill!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pines throws a jab but it's blocked by Hill.
Hill keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Pines misses with a hook.
Hill changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
OJ Pines seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pines walks into a left hand.
Pines misses with a lunging right hand

and Hill counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Pines!
Pines tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hill wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Hill is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pines knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Pines is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hill off and has taken his back!

Hill rolls, trying to escape but Pines keeps control of the position.

Hill manages to reverse the position and now he's in Pines's guard. Nice work there by Hill.

Pines wants to sweep here but Hill controlling him for the moment.
Hill is pushing down on Pines's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pines is fighting to maintain full guard but Hill has managed to sneak the leg through.
Hill is looking to take a break and control but Pines is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hill passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Pines!
Pines has given up his back.
Hill punishes Pines with strikes from the back mount.

Hill patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Pines is in a bad position with Hill working for a choke. Pines manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Pines tries to free his leg and advance position but Hill is retaining full guard.

Hill has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Pines is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hill.
Pines lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hill is looking for a sweep.
Hill manages to get back to half guard.
Hill is trying is best to control the position here.

Hill lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Hill stands up over Pines, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Pines is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hill working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Hill passes into half guard.
Hill works his way into side control.

Hill is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pines has escaped the position, nice work there.
Hill tries to advance to mount but can't.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pines is looking for a sweep.

Hill thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Pines tries to bench press Hill off him but Hill keeps the position.
Pines gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Pines is wriggling around trying to escape.
Pines wants to hold on but Hill pushes him away.
Pines can't escape the position.
Pines is working hard here to advance position.
The referee warns Pines that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Pines is trying desperately to improve position.
Hill trying to control but Pines is having none of it.

Pines is looking to get to half guard.

Hill looking to secure an arm triangle but Pines defends it well.
Hill wants to take Pines's back here but Pines is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Pines is in all sorts of trouble here.
Pines is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Hill controlling his opponent.
Hill can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pines is looking to escape.

Pines is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Hill moves to the back position.
You can see the frustration on Pines's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Hill is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Pines has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Hill has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Pines taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Hill doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Scott Hill!
Scott Hill decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
