PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between The pit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and heavy weight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, The pit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, heavy weight!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Bruno Lombardi and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by pit.

weight sneaks out the side door and pushes pit away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

pit scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
pit blocks the strikes from weight.
pit working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on weight's thigh. weight counters though and makes it back to full guard.
pit looking to pass the guard.
weight trying to control the position here.
pit throwing strikes from guard but weight blocks nicely.
pit has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

pit wants to control from the top but weight keeps moving.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
pit controlling from the top position.

weight working for a triangle but pit defends it easily.
pit wants to stand but weight has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
weight keeping full guard, as pit tries to pass.
weight is trying to control the position from the bottom.
weight preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
weight keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
weight is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

weight drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
pit is breathing heavily.

weight stands up and waves to pit to follow him.
pit showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from weight.
pit shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and weight counters with a nice double leg into side control. pit won't be happy with that.
weight scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at pit to see if he's OK.
weight working the ground and pound.
pit takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
pit being controlled for a moment.

pit struggling a bit here.

weight decides to take the fight back to the feet.
weight tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but pit paws at him with a jab and circles away.
weight moves in looking to clinch but pit pushes him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



weight shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
weight is trying to control the action in half guard but pit is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
pit is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
weight is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
weight trying to control the action but pit is working from the bottom.
weight perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
pit trying to control but weight postures up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
pit avoids the head kick by weight.
weight shoots and misses

and pit counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
pit is trying to control. weight wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
pit trying to control the pace.
heavy weight has got the better of the ground game so far.
pit trying to control the action but weight is working from the bottom.

pit trying to mount his opponent but weight defends it.
weight moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
weight is pulling down on pit's head to control his posture.
pit postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
weight looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but pit puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
weight trying to control here.
pit is trying to control. weight wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

pit escapes and gets back to his feet.
weight throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by pit.
pit misses with a wild combination.
The pit is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

weight closes the distance and pushes pit back into the ropes.
pit gets underhooks to prevent weight's takedown attempt.

pit has dropped down and is working for a takedown. weight is trying to keep an underhook but pit manages to get the takedown into half guard.

weight trying to control from the bottom.

pit is looking for a kimura but weight is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for pit to get the leverage.
pit works his foot free and advances to mount.
weight regains half guard.
weight wants to get back to full guard.
pit is taking a breather. weight says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
pit stops weight from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The pit dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from pit.
weight with a poor takedown

and pit counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by pit.
weight is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
weight prevents pit from improving his position.
pit tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
weight is looking to take a break and control but pit is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
pit is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of weight's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take weight's back!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
pit avoiding weight 's attempts to control his hands.
pit trying to control momentarily.
pit softening up his opponent with strikes here.
weight tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
weight tries to hold on but pit pushes him away.
pit raining down shots from the mount!
pit wants to control the pace but weight is squirming around nicely.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
pit is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because weight is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
pit throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for weight because pit loaded up on that one.
pit trying to control but he's not successful this time.
pit controlling from mount.

weight really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
pit avoids the attempt from weight to control.
pit wants to control the pace but weight is squirming around nicely.
weight regains half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

pit has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can weight defend it? pit steps over the head and cranks it - weight is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for pit!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:13 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). The pit!
