PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Aloysius Wiremu (ranked 2100 p4p, 264 weight class) and Danny Page (ranked 1810 p4p, 232 weight class). Wiremu comes to the cage accompanied by Billy Joel - The River of Dreams. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Danny Page!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Richard Clark and Sam Margolis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Page throws a series of punches but Wiremu avoids them all with ease.
Wiremu fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Page on the side of the head.
Wiremu misses with a low kick.

Wiremu closes the distance and pushes Page back into the cage.
Page is trying to break free.
Wiremu lands a right hand.

Page breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wiremu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Wiremu tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Page paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Page lands a nice shot to the body.
The fight stays on the outside here - Wiremu looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Wiremu tries to clinch but Page moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Good exchange - Page coming out on top.
Wiremu dodges the punch combination from Page.
Wiremu is looking to land body kicks.
Page lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Wiremu uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Page throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Page moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Page slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Wiremu scores with a hook to the body. Page takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Page lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Wiremu circles away quickly and effectively.
Wiremu throws a sloppy head kick and Page moves out of range easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A frustrated look appears on Page's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Wiremu swings wildly with an uppercut but Page uses good head movement to avoid it.
Wiremu misses with some punches.

Page breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Page stalks Wiremu and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Wiremu's face. Wiremu staggers backwards, shaken.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wiremu will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Page ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Page looks to land a combination but Wiremu avoids it well.
Wiremu on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Page falls off balance throwing a combination
and Wiremu counters with a good low kick that Page was not able to check.
Wiremu throws a leg kick but Page checks it.
Wiremu connects with a body shot that sends Page's belly button to the back.
Page shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wiremu pinned against the cage. Wiremu gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Page. Wiremu does a little dance to reset his feet.

Wiremu instigates a clinch.

Page manages to break the clinch.
Page rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wiremu moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Page connects with a right hand. Wiremu shakes it off.
Page's jab looks to have found its range, popping Wiremu under the eye.

Wiremu misses with a hook. Page ducked under it nicely.
Danny Page seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Page moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
A big left from Page misses.
Wiremu is looking to clinch.
Wiremu walks into a jab.
Page misses with a looping left.
Page throws a series of punches but Wiremu moves out of range.
Page moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Wiremu takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
A chopping leg kick lands by Wiremu.
Page misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Nice jab there from Page.
A slow jab from Page misses its intended target.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Page, right into the meat.
Page lands a jab to Wiremu's midsection.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wiremu plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Wiremu throws a lazy head kick
and Page counters with a nice uppercut.
Page lands with a straight right. Wiremu didn't see that one coming.
Page buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Page misses with an uppercut
and Wiremu counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Wiremu throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Wiremu moves into the clinch successfully.
Page wants to break the clinch but can't.
Wiremu digs a right hand into Page's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Page's gas tank.
Wiremu lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Page's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Wiremu keeps control of Page as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Wiremu creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wiremu is working Page over against the cage.
Wiremu has a couple of punches blocked by Page.
Page is trying to force a seperation but Wiremu has the dominant position.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Wiremu.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Danny Page will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Wiremu lands a big head kick that sends Page tumbling to the mat! Wiremu takes a step backwards and waves Page back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Page scores with a jab.
Wiremu throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Wiremu loads up on a big right hand but Page slips the punch.
A countering left hand to the body from Page misses.
Wiremu shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Page eats them both and turns towards Wiremu to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Wiremu circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Page drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Wiremu follows Page to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!
