Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ignatius Thistlewhite (ranked 6119 p4p, 534 weight class) and Joao Sousa (ranked 4061 p4p, 416 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Sousa's choice of entrance music: Beat It. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Joao Sousa enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ignatius Thistlewhite! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Joao Sousa! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thistlewhite jabs at Sousa's body. A telegraphed right hand from Thistlewhite misses the target. Thistlewhite throws a predictable looking body shot
and Sousa counters with a nice double leg into guard. Thistlewhite is striking from the bottom but Sousa uses the opportunity to pass into half guard. Sousa is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Thistlewhite looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Thistlewhite looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Thistlewhite is looking for a sweep. Sousa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Sousa keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Thistlewhite looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Sousa pushes past his half guard into mount! Sousa landing shots from mount. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sousa sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sousa with a couple of short strikes. Sousa working the ground and pound effectively.
Thistlewhite is looking to improve his position but Sousa isn't that keen on the idea. The referee warns Thistlewhite that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Sousa lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Thistlewhite hang on?
Thistlewhite is rocked! Thistlewhite flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Sousa looking to control but Thistlewhite is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Sousa looking to finish Thistlewhite with some ground and pound. This is bad for Thistlewhite! Oh Thistlewhite is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Sousa lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Thistlewhite is looking to improve his position but Sousa isn't that keen on the idea. Sousa is landing with some decent strikes but Thistlewhite is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Sousa has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Thistlewhite is in all sorts of trouble here.
Thistlewhite has left one of his arms exposed and Sousa doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Thistlewhite screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joao Sousa! After the fight, Joao Sousa was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
