PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeffry Armstrong (ranked 6474 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Preston (ranked 4491 p4p, 464 weight class). Preston has chosen Shakka-Walking with elephants as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jeffry Armstrong had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeffry Armstrong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Robert Preston!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Steven Brown and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Preston has Armstrong up against the cage in a clinch.

Armstrong jumps guard.
Preston postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Armstrong could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Preston engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Armstrong seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Preston throws a big right hand that misses.
Preston postures up.
Armstrong managing to control the position.
Preston trying to control but Armstrong is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Armstrong tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Preston postures up in Armstrong's guard and throws a big left but Armstrong blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Armstrong working for a triangle but Preston defends it easily.
Armstrong looking to control but Preston passes into half guard.
Armstrong trying to control from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Preston thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Armstrong's head.
Preston is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Armstrong is trying to get back to full guard.
Preston is controlling the pace.
Preston has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Preston gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Preston.
Armstrong is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Preston has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Armstrong can't do much from the bottom here.

Preston stands up.

Preston looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Armstrong wriggles free and stands up.

Preston clinches.

Preston manages to break the clinch.
Armstrong shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Preston as he jumps to the side.

Armstrong decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Preston preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Armstrong misses with a head shot. Preston uses the momentum to regain guard.
Preston seems keen to control Armstrong's posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Preston dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Preston drives through and clinches with Armstrong against the cage.
Armstrong slows down the pace here.
Preston stalling in the clinch but Armstrong improves position.
Armstrong tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Preston just stands there and leans against the cage.
A right handed body shot lands from Preston.
Armstrong jumps guard but Preston stands there with Armstrong around his waist. Armstrong gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Preston breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Preston tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Armstrong feinted with a counter takedown.
Armstrong shoots and misses
and Preston counters with a nice low kick that buckles Armstrong's knee momentarily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeffry Armstrong. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Preston moves in looking to clinch but Armstrong pushes him off.
Armstrong drops down looking for a counter takedown but Preston sprawls and moves away.

Preston has closed the distance and engaged Armstrong in a clinch.

Preston pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Robert Preston seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Preston fails with an attempt to clinch.
Armstrong changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Preston pushes Armstrong up against the cage in a clinch.
Armstrong looking to slow down the pace here.
Armstrong tries to pull guard but Preston won't allow it.
Armstrong tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Preston is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Preston breaks the clinch.

Preston drives through and clinches with Armstrong against the cage.

It looks like Jeffry Armstrong has been cut.
Armstrong tries to pull guard but Preston won't allow it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Armstrong tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Preston just stands there and leans against the cage.

Preston breaks the clinch.
Preston throws a head kick that Armstrong semi-blocks.

Armstrong tries to keep at a distance but Preston has taken the fight into the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Armstrong jumps guard.
Preston postures up in Armstrong's guard and throws a big left but Armstrong blocks it.
Preston working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Preston looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Preston stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Armstrong swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Preston slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Preston stands up and waves to Armstrong to follow him.
Preston pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Armstrong misses with a takedown attempt - Preston sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Both fighters circling slowly here as the pace drops. Hopefully one of them does someth.. OOOHHHH!!!! Preston throws an absolute beast of a head kick! Armstrong is done! He's out cold, twisted and contorted up against the cage! Wow!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Robert Preston!
Our winner, Robert Preston, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
