Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mike Peterson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Aivis Kargins! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Bart Greer and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kargins moves in looking to clinch but Peterson pushes him off. Peterson avoids the head kick by Kargins.
Kargins throws a sloppy head kick and Peterson moves out of range easily. Kargins's coach down at Island Hammers Fight Camp was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Kargins's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Peterson fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Peterson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kargins but Kargins pushes him off and we're back to square one. Kargins pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Peterson is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Kargins. Peterson moves in looking to clinch but Kargins pushes him off. Kargins misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kargins throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Kargins tries a head kick but it misses.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kargins throws a sloppy head kick and Peterson moves out of range easily. Peterson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. It looks like Peterson is going to stand back up.
Peterson is taking a breather. Kargins says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's one minute gone in the round. Peterson prevents Kargins from improving his position. Kargins looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Kargins really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Peterson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Kargins wants to improve his position but Peterson is controlling well.
Kargins looks winded! Peterson is thwarting Kargins's attempts to control the position. Peterson working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Peterson scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Peterson controlling the pace. Kargins pushes Peterson off looking to stand but Peterson dives back in and keeps control.
Peterson performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Nice strikes from Peterson there. Peterson has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Kargins defend it? Peterson steps over the head and cranks it - Kargins is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Peterson!
